NVIDIA will no longer support DirectX 10 video cards

NVIDIA will soon stop providing drivers with enhancements, optimization and bug fixes for its DX 10 cards

NVIDIA will end driver support for its Direct X 10 card families such as GeForce 8 Series, 9 series, GeForce 100, 200 300 and 400 desktop GPU series followed by GeForce 7, 8 and 9 series for Laptop GPU. Certain Quadro FX, Quadro CX, Quardro Plex and a Tesla cards will also be present in the EOL List.

NVIDIA mentioned in its support page that following the release 343, it will drop its support for DX 10 cards and its users will be stuck with an outdated video cards.

Looks like some of you out there are going to have to upgrade now. I'd say it's well deserved if you are using one of these series of cards still.  :P

Can't say I see a problem with this, honestly.

From both a financial and progressive standpoint, there's little reason to continue supporting DX10, especially if DX12 performs as well as it should.

Finally, I can't imagine it has been fun support such old videocards. AMD Dropped DX10 cards years ago, of course nice of nVidia to support them for a long time, but still, seems like a bit of unnecessary work

Well that sucks. I have some older cards in my lower end computers and it wouldn't really be a big deal except that when I new game is released it sometimes is in desperate need of a driver update.

my friend's GPU just died. he's a light light PC gamer and has mostly just used hand me downs from his older brother

his gpu was a 9800GT

he asked me how old his card was

"dude....it's so old, nvidia has gone full circle. they just released the 9 series.....again"

lol

Not sure why you think it would effect a GTX 480 buddy.

This is the entire list http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3473

And the quote from the op is misleading, 400 series is still supported (only the geforce 405 gets dropped)

Above the 405 are DX11 cards...  OP says DX10 cards no longer supported.

Oh simple, just un-solder the old chip, and re-solder a new chip!

did you research your comment before you posted it? Most if not all of the 400 series are dx11. I use a 465 and love playing games in dx11. In fact I'm playing a dx11 game right now.

Considering the article stated "Geforce 400 cards", I assumed the GTX 465 was one of them.

Aside from that, Ryan already told me. I knew before you even began to write your comment.

I hope you guys realize that support for these GPUs already ended a while back. If you expect game optimizations from them, it never really applied.

You can still use your GPU just fine. It might not have official Windows 10 support, but I have a GeForce GTX 260, and the Windows 8.1 drivers works fine under Windows 10.

While obviously I can't promises anything, and things in Windows 10 could potentially change making Windows 8.1 drivers not work, so far it looks good.

Also, I believe this is a repost, back in March:

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/126621-nvidia-to-end-driver-support-for-many-older-video-cards/

Here is the full list of GPUs making the cut:
