Gays are still pretty repressed in some places, and gay pride was meant to combat that. In a place like Toronto, however, it doesn't really seem needed.

I thought May was gay pride month. I'm confused. :( I need to keep up with these things.

Just went to my local pride rally and signed the petitions and such. Sadly it was a smaller rally than I had hoped but I hope it helps change things for the better. People often wonder why have these types of events, well there are some ridiculous people out there who actually believe you can 'pray the gay away' and others who bully and hurt LGBT people. The message is that it's wrong to discriminate against anyone and for equality all around the world.

It may seem that it isn't necessary to hold pride events in places where it's fairly accepted but the thing is there are going to be more supporters that go to those areas and therefore a bigger voice than you would have in less accepted areas. The idea is to spread the message into neighboring areas to promote equality.

I don't believe having a Gay Pride Month is really beneficial to your cause, it just highlights your differences during your fight for equality. I mean i get why it's a thing, but is it really unifying people or is it just segregating you more? The people already on the gay equality side will still be on that side, and the people that aren't won't change their opinions.

I hate gay pride events. Makes me jealous, reminds me of how forever alone I am.
