So McDonalds uses Cherry MX keys...

Dubesta11

I happened to notice a familiar cross pattern on a broken switch...

Turns out it's a Cherry MX (Black?). I press that switch daily and always thought it felt like a mechanical switch, without an actuation point (smooth). Interesting! Would love to get some keycaps and troll the people there :)

Most places probably use them since they last forever.

Now of course I'm more interested in,

A. What the heck that keypad thing is used for because those words don't look like they belong together

and B. How many people are gonna screw things up because there is no key now.

How did you get the picture in the first place?

Step 1. Find interesting object.

Step 2. Take out phone.

Step 3. Take picture.

Step 4. Share online.

Step 5. ?????

Step 6. Profit?

Now of course I'm more interested in,

and B. How many people are gonna screw things up because there is no key now.

They don't use that button very much, and there's another one hooked up. It is to serve orders or modify stuff for the display system.

I now have a list of one entry long for why I actually like Mcdonalds.

Ha, work was slow today and no one was doing anything. We have a fairly laid-back store and can do quite a bit of stuff (Costumes, outside food, party, drinks, fun)

Most point of sale machines use blacks.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Oh cool. I've been wondering about that, but I didn't wanna take a key off incase it was some convoluted proprietary thing that would break if I did. I was wondering if it was some type of mechanical switch or topre or whatever in there cause it doesn't feel like a rubber dome.

We actually have a broken one on our line 1's bump board over by the initiator side. The top right button to serve off the order works if you know how to push it just right, but otherwise doesn't work. I assume it either got slammed really hard or it got hit somehow that broke it.

Thank you for satisfying my curiosity. Maybe i'll take a key off tonight and have a look myself, now that I know it's just a Cherry (or similar off brand) switch back there.

Hey it lets me stream music from Q-Dance radio and the like while i'm at work. Only thing that keeps me sane is a hard pounding bass. Though lately i've been listening to Pandora with an Abney Park seed. Hehe

Blacks were pretty much designed for POS machines, and are very common in them. The are good for people to type on in the standing position, and wear like iron.

They also use crazy awesome professional monitors with ultra-thin bezels.

I went to a mcdonalds a couple weeks ago. They had a 5 screen setup with bezels this thin:
