Posted October 24, 2014 I think you mean the PB287Q btw, not the PB278Q No need to get the formula really. The maximus VII hero is enough (Though even that is overkill unless you want to do some serious OC'ing). The rest looks good to me though I would with EVGA for the reference cooler card because EVGA customer support is perfect. Otherwise Gigabyte G1 Gaming or EVGA ACX 2.0 FTW are good options for SLI. Posted October 24, 2014 if the game as SLI support and isnt too demanding at high settings, which most new games tends to be due to shit optimization these days, then yea you can run them, so far most games that has been released this month has not had sli support and doesnt really run very well at all, and considering the fps difference between a 780 and 980 which is around 10-15fps, you will on highest get between 70 and 130 in borderlands on a single card for example, who knows about SLI as i havent seen that work last i played. Im running two 780´s in SLI and have played many of the new games, managed to force SLI support in Mordor using the Fear profile if i remember correctly this framerate was on a single 1080p screen btw.. havent tried my surround lately Proud Member of the Glorious PC Master Race
 Posted October 24, 2014 - Welcome to the forum! Please remember to follow your topics! It's good BUT ditch the 980s and get 2 970s instead, it's priced much better (almost half the price for 15-20% less performance at most). Or even 3, they would still be cheaper than 2 980s and own them performancewise. From personal experience however I advise you try with a single card first, you might find that it's really not that inadequate also, I'm noticing significant performance gains with a lot of games in windows 10 tech preview so you might want to consider grabbing that (keep a constant backup though). Also, if I were you I'd step down the motherboard to something like a Z97-A, you really don't need a maximus formula and that thing's mighty expensive... another thing, use some of the spared money to grab a 240gb ssd minimum, 120gb are pretty tight. If you want some info on the PB287Q I have an unboxing and testing post linked in my signature, check it out!
