Hey, I have a problem.

There is a really cute girl who I want to ask to homecoming. (8/10) I am pretty hesitant though. Here is my current situation.

She is always asking for my help in math, and physics class. She isn't afraid to go out of her way to be near me and talk, etc. But sometimes seems to purposely keep distance from me (but always has me in proximity.) I don't always try to be near her though, we all need our space. We have the same kind of humor and always laughs at my jokes and afterwards gives me the cutest smile. (I prefer the haughty heh, or the smirk.) Today she asked me to play a mobile game with her, and said, "Me and my FREIND plays this a lot." She said it pretty nonchalantly though, so it probably doesn't mean anything. I just always take notice of what she says. Also, she always shys away from physical contact when I am sitting next to her.

I'm really shy, but... I kinda think I may love her. (Kawaii Ikr.)

Thanks so much! :D

(Unnecessary background on me.)

I am slightly above average height for my age, and also weight wise. I used to be pretty big, but never lost my moobs. qq

I am a second year student in high school even though I have nerdy tendencies, I am pretty athletic. I am on the varsity team for football. (Which is pretty uncommon for guys my age, so at least I got that going for me.)

Ask her. There's nothing else you should do!

I have been in the position and pussied out, but that's exactly what you shouldn't do. Ask her.

Ask her to homecoming then teach her about physics after homecoming.

Honestly just ask her... if you think she's interested you got nothing to loose.

You can't be scared, when you open up, your problems seems to go away with girls, that's my experience just ask them. I mean if you guys are "friends", she's not gonna say no in a mean way, it's worth trying, so just ask.

What if she says no? It would be super awkward seeing her in class, and in the halls.

I don't want her to alienate me. :(

But true, if I never ask I will be always saying what if.

Wait a second....did you just rate her out of 1 out of 10? Please tell me im mistaken and misunderstood that, because if you did, then I hope she says no.

It will only be awkward for a short while^^ And you won't be in school forever.

This is what school is for. Test stuff out. Make mistakes. Have fun ^_^

Nope.....It wasn't the number I had a problem with...It was the rating itself.

You basically reduced a girl down to a simple number......On a public forum..  Which is something only drunk college dudes on spring breaks resort do.

Sorry before I came to LTT my background was 4chan. Now you know why I am hesitant. (I'm a tad weird.)

Thanks for making me depressed.

But true, if I never ask I will be always saying what if.

The proper strategy for youngish and gangly creatures first attempting to strike out in "love" is to lower your expectations.  To psychologically protect yourself, assume you are such a hideous grotesquerie of a human being that the mere mention of you going out with her will cause fits of both laughter and rage.  Assume that in order for you to get a single yes from the bottom of the barrel of the female gene pool, you'd have to ask out HUNDREDS of females, multiple times before one was desperate enough to even consider saying yes while in a drunken stupor.  Then, and only then, can you be shielded enough to make a move and ask her out.

That was always my strategy, and I turned out just fine, right guys !???!?????!?

In the event you ignore my advice above, the alternative is to do what others have said.  Just ask her out, but still go in with less expectations.

a)  you're into her - you ask her out and find out she is into you - you get your date

b )  you're into her - you ask her out and find out she is not into you - it stings a little, but you are no worse off than you were before, and can spend time focusing on other potential targets that ARE into you.

c) you're into her - you never ask her out and never find out if she is into you are not

c1 - if she WAS into you, you'd never have gotten the chance to capitalize on it

c2 - if she was NOT into you, you'd spend far too much time wondering what might have been had you asked vs just cauterizing the momentary wound and moving on to someone else that WOULD be into you.

These are your choices.  There comes a point in every mans life when he must turn and face the tiger, go face that tiger, face the prospect that she would be disgusted going out with you, what could go wrong?

.... unless you are like a male Carrie...

I am impelled not to squeak like a grateful and frightened mouse, but to roar...

Back on the horse.

The real reason I am depressed isn't from your criticisms (which I thank you for.) It is that you stated that I didn't care about her since I have her a rating.

Which I was disgusted (really just pissed) by is that you think I don't care, but I can't blame you for making the assumption. A random internet goer like yourself has a valid reason to assume such things. The countless times I've just stopped doing my daily activities to think of her. The amount of times I've taken my own valuable time to do something for her. So that she might just decide to spend time with me for the few minutes we have in one class together. So, she might just give me her smile that I adore so. You just pissed me off sir.

So thanks for being honest.

Because I will ask her. Because not only do I love her, its also just because you called me out on it asshole.
