Upgrade to the FX-8320 or upgrade to the G3258 (lol why does this beat the FX 6300 for way less)

I Game, Stream and Video render. I was thinking of picking up the G3258 and a cheap board and it seems to do better in gaming compared to the 6300 and I can at least upgrade to a new i5 compared to being stuck at the 8320

i5 4590 @ Stock, XFX R9 290!, HyperX Beast 4x8GB  @1600, 850 EVO 120gb, WD Caviar Blue 1TB, , Asrock H97m Pro 4 , Fractal Design Define R4, Windows 10

A G3258 isnt exactly a rendering chip lol

An 8320 will be a whole world better then a G3258, even better then an i5, for video rendering.

AS LONG AS I CAN PLAY GAMES UNTIL I GET AN INTEL CPU. It's really sad that this thing does so good yet the FX 6300 isn't like $2 because of it.

FX will do better with streaming than the G3258. Yeah, the upgrade path is limited, but I think the FX will last longer anyway.

I could be very wrong

The 8320 would be better for video rendering because it has more threads, having more threads is important for video rendering.

My 6300 worked great for me. Ran it @ 4.8ghz

2 cores isn't going to do you well for rendering, nor streaming (I'm not 100% sure about the streaming part). I do agree to the future upgrade path if you chose to go with the G3258, but I highly doubt it will perform better in rendering than the 6300, in games however, it will most likely edge out the 6300 depending on the game.

You are a streamer, and are rendering video's. Why consider a dual core processor?

8320 will DESTROY a G3258 in streaming and rendering.

It depends on your priorities.

If gaming is your priority, especially certain types of games, then the G3258 is the better option.  Especially because it gives you an upgrade path to i5/i7.

If rendering is a priority, then stick with your FX6.

Going from FX6 to FX8 is going to be a minimal upgrade, especially in games, but more helpful in rendering.

The Pentium isn't the best multitasker either.  so be aware that while it does perform better at games than the FX6, that is all it will do, just game.

The G3258 tanks in performance for streaming. If there's any intention of streaming games, I wouldn't recommend going with a G3258. It's otherwise a great budget gaming cpu.

Please go with the FX the g3258 is only good for games that uses 1-2 cores when overclocked the fx will be much better with everything else

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

I was only 9 years old. I loved Fifflaren so much, I had all the NiP merchandise and matches pirated. I prayed to Fifflaren every night before bed. Thanking him for the life I have been given. Fifflaren is love I say. Fifflaren is life. My dad hears and calls me a fuckhead. I knew he was just jelly of my passion for Fifflaren. I called him a Sw@yer. He hits me and sends me to go to sleep. I'm crying now, and my face hurts. I lay in bed and it's really cold. A warmth is moving towards me. I feel someone touching me. I feel someone touching me. It's Fifflaren. I am so happy. He whispers in my ear; "this is my pyjama". He grabs me with his powerful Swedish hands and puts me on my hands and knees. I'm ready. I spread my ass cheeks for Fifflaren. He penetrates my butt-hole. It hurts so much but I do it for Fifflaren. I can feel my butt tearing as my eyes start to water. I push against his force. I want to please Fifflaren. He roars a viking roar as he fills my butt with his love. My dad walks in. Fifflaren looks straight into his eyes and says; "He is a ninja now". Fifflaren is love, Fifflaren is life

If you plan on upgrading to an i5 or i7 soon then its fine. Ive bought 4 G3258 in the last 6 months. two would do 4.2 one would do 4.7 ( The first one)  and one only 3.6Ghz. As the production life of a CPU ages it will overclock less so keep that in  mind

And its only two cores so games that like 4 cores will suffer like BF4, but games like WoW will do great. Also I have one matched with a R9 270 and its a pretty awesome budget gaming rig

Its agreat way to move to Intel but rendering will suffer bigtime

Okay :D I will go with the 8320 only because I already have an AMD overclocking motherboard and a Hyper 212 EVO and I'm definitely going to push this thing.

G3258 has quicksync.

To me(and everyone who do not already have an AMD motherboard), G3258 is a way better choice because of better upgrade path.

What types of games do you play?

Someone mentioned that the G3258 wont play BF4?  They are wrong.

Just look at all these videos.  This CPU is powerful enough to play a wide variety of games, with cards such as the 970, which is more on par with your R9 290.

In the long run, you are much better off going with Intel.  If it means buying a Z97 + Pentium from the start and living with that for a few months until you get enough money for an i5/i7 that is the route you should take.  The FX processor is not going to perform nearly as well, especially with an R9 290.  You're bottlenecking your GPU.  When you do make the switch to i5/i7, your performance for EVERYTHING, not just gaming is going to really take off.

Why would you cripple a GTX 970 with a G3258. Your getting like 50% of its proformance. unles your just waiting for a 4790K to arrive. The GTX970 will get 135 FPS on Ultra. The video shows 60 FPS. BF4 is not the best enviroment for a Pentium dual core as I said.  I didn't say it would play it

On the other side the FX8350 is about 15FPS behind the 4790K @ stock

No its flucuates from 50 to 90.

Anb just for compairson on the thread title. The G3258 cant beat a FX6300, it can't even beat a i3 when the G3258 is overcloked to 4.6

But its a nice chip for $60

Didn't see your whole post as College blocks videos but it's also worth mentioning QuickSync support for rendering/streaming.

No its fluctuates from 50 to 90.

And just for comparison on the thread title. The G3258 cant beat a FX6300 in multithreaded, it can even beat a i3 in multithreaded (but not paralell compute) when the G3258 is overclocked to 4.6

But its a nice chip for $60

Just had a few points I wished to dispute ;)

Performance videos are considered pornography to some, which is probably why your college is blocking them.

Anandtech is blocked as pornography. I wouldn't put it past them.

All the other good pornography domains were taken, and thus Anandtech was born.
