-Update-

So I just went to talk to the guy that is doing the paint for my bike and some body work on the fenders. Just getting colors lined out for the pinstriping. So far he has the body work for the fenders done and has the base paint done. So the pinstriping will be totally done this week!

Now for powder coating, I just got the call today that it is also all done so I will be picking that up tomorrow! (I will post pics of that as well when I get it)

Note: The fenders are just really dusty so they look a bit grey.

Almost forgot to share test results from the MSF course. I hope potential riders learn from my mistakes. If I passed the first time I wouldn't have to be playing the waiting game right now for getting my license.

Here in the US once you have your license you can ride anything on two wheels.

That was a test. There is a written test you have to take if you are under 18 to get a permit, then you can get a license. If you are over 18 you can simply go to the DMV (department of motor vehicles) and take the license test.

Some states in the US vary a little bit, but for the most part that's how they work.

The process in Ohio (for anyone over 18) is:

  1. Take written test of 40 questions (see a few pages back where I passed). That gets you your temp which allows you to ride literally anything but with restrictions
  2. Take MSF course (optional) upon successful completion you get a certificate to show insurance company for reduced rates as well as a waiver for the skills test to take to the BMV.
  3. This is if you don't take the MSF course (which is the easiest). If you don't take the MSF class you go to your local BMV and test. Upon successful completion you get an endorsement added to your driver's license

I called for a retest by the MSF and am waiting for someone to return my call. In the meanwhile I have an exam scheduled this Saturday (non-MSF) that would allow me to get my endorsement. The test offered by the state isn't nearly as exhaustive as the MSF's. So my plan is to pass the state of Ohio's test for my license then pass the MSF course for my certificate of completion. That's the plan at least. We'll have to see if I have to change it.

Don't feel too bad your time will come soon enough. I was extremely eager when I was your age to get a bike but there were a number of factors holding me back. Here in the U.S. you can get your license at that age but you have to jump through quite a bit of hoops. I can't imagine what insurance would be like for a 15 y/o here either. My advice would be to get at least a year of car driving in first so you know what people on the road are like, how to react to them, etc before getting on two wheels. Otherwise it will be an extremely overwhelming experience for you.

Nice bike btw :) I love the cafe racer look

UK is 16, sadly only allowed to ride up to 50cc and all 4 strokes are scooters and the geared ones are 2 strokes (not the worst thing in the world) and are either ragged by some chav or you have to get it new.

I pick up my new scooter on Saturday then in August I can finally move onto a geared 125. Most likely buying my dad's Honda CG off of him, reliable and cheap to insure.

I would love a R125 or CBR 125 but the insurance and the cost of the bike is out of my price range at the moment.

I can't imagine getting around on a 50 or 125cc bike where I live. If you want to get somewhere in Ohio in a timely fashion you need to take the highway which means sustained speeds of of about 70MPH. I'd imagine a bike with that displacement will struggle on the highway sustaining those speeds for an extended period of time (30+ minutes)

I did a 135 mile journey on Sunday. Took me 3 hours cruising at 60-70mph on my 125cc  :)

Nope, perfectly fine :) This was with a large pannier I had strapped to my tank (didn't fit in the usual location because of my tail tidy and indicators), saddle bags and a tail bag. Had a weeks worth of clothes inside, as well as my laptop and some camera equipment. Also had a Camelbak on me the whole way!

What's the riding experience like on a 125cc bike at 70mph? Are you more or less wide open throttle the whole time?

@BCMods Would also like to know too. Where are RPMs? I hit the highway for the first time today and was around 5-6K RPMs at 70MPH

What bike are you on? My R125 sits at 9K revs for 70MPH. 60 is 7.5K, 65 is 8K.

Wouldn't want to stay at 70 for too long as I feel it puts too much stress on the bike, so I vary it between 60-70.

See my other post for exact revs etc :)

Throttle isn't fully open. You can take it further than 70MPH but that's going very close to the redline. Top speed is 84MPH but that's bouncing off of the limiter going downhill :P

Yikes. Im not all that crazy about my SV650 doing 6500 RPM at ~75mph.

Use good motor oil and change it often if you have a habit or turning really high RPM's like that.

The truth is somewhere in the middle. I make maintenance a priority.

My SV is the only one that ever sees a track but I am lazy so I buy my oil in bulk and just use it in both bikes. Before I ever spent time on the track I would do regular Mobile 1 every 1000 miles with a fresh filter every time.

My best summer has been just over 10,000 miles. My best single day was 1147 miles for my Iron Butt, that day was 21 hours and 42 minutes start to finish.
