Buying Laptop $1700 Budget pls halp

Ace Lean

So I am buying a laptop for college coming up around the bend and I was wondering what kind should I go with, I have been on the fence with the Lenovo y50 (The edition with the SSD) and also am ASUS ROG G750jz...

I really want a laptop that can kill any games but I also want one with a nice keyboard. Also a 1080p screen is plenty for me. I have also been on the fence for a Macbook but I don't want to jump on the bandwagon, yet I have heard good things about them. Can macs even game. Obviously I am not so knowledgeable so any help is appreciated.

I actually have been looking into this as well recently, the 2 main problems that come with gaming laptops are pretty much gone with the 970m and 980m. You can upgrade your laptop GPU down the line and the 980m performs 80% as well as its 980 desktop counter part making it a killer in 1080p. This is a little over your budget but I think its well worth it, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152663&cm_re=970m-_-34-152-663-_-Product. There are cheaper brands like sager that might get you what you need but I truly like MSI laptops.

If you want it for college you really want a good battery life, and the i7 macbook is really good at that. I have the newest gen of macbook and it has a really good battery life, as long as you don't watch videos all day. It will easily last the day if you're looking at PDFs and in word. It will play games but only on low. The others will definately perform better in the games at the expence of half the battery life.

"Have you tried turning it off and on again?"

See I do like Macbooks for the OS X experience but the whole thing is that they arent good for gaming... I really would like the best of both worlds... Are there any Mac PC hybrids?

There's the GT60 that should come with the 970M, but it's a single fan laptop. Personally, I'd prefer the Sager NP8268-S, which is also a 15 inch laptop, but has a separate fan for the CPU/GPU.

The gaming experiance is fine if you turn the mouse acceleration off and use a gaming mouse. All mac steam games run fine on OSX.

That might be a good choice, but I was checking out that MSI you linked and it looks perfect, although 17 inches is a little big to be lugging around campus...

I don't know but that just sounds like a bad idea... It was not made to run windows..

Apple supports it oficially using Boot Camp. An official app apple made to do it easy:

https://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/

Besides, the components that are inside are as ordinary as any windows machine

Ill find one for you :).

Here you go, the 15.6 inch versions are slimmer (thats a good thing) and weigh about half as much.  http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GS60-2QE-Ghost-Pro.html#hero-overview

There are variants of this laptop with more ram or more SSD's in raid 0 and one that has a 3k display too.

Wow... That looks great! Might be a good buy although I didnt see a price

EDIT: Although it is very slim I like a sturdy laptop

Well It does seem like my best bet at the moment :P

Yeah, honestly 3 months ago I would not have even bothered with a gaming laptop, now? I don't see how I can justify dropping 1500$ on a desktop excluding peripherals for something that will give me 20% better performance than a 1500$ gaming laptop that is portable. Not to mention for the people who are going to argue that they are not "upgradeable" or whatever, the gpu is and by the time you need to upgrade anything else the laptop would have probably been close to dying anyway.

Actually, the GT70 is the 17" version, the GT60 should be 15" like you want.
