[Build log(sorta)]The replacement for a prebuilt - Part 2

Speedbird

Hi

Now this post is LONG overdue. I mean, most of the pics you see here are from the 15th of September. But anyway, here it is.

Background:

Now, about a month ago I posted a build log on KAVERI-PC, the replacement for a prebuilt desktop (check it out at http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/210198-build-log-the-kaveri-pc-replacement-for-a-prebuilt/ ). But you probably didn't know that I had 2 prebuilt desktops. Also I found my dad's old PC a few months ago, and wanted to do something with that. I decided to switch completely to AMD, by getting rid of the other prebuilt and ptting some new hardware in an old case. So let's begin.

Tearing down the prebuilts:

Right then. Let's start off with the motherboard.

An H57 mATX board, made by ECS. Not that bad, actually. At least it's not Biostar.

Now the CPU, an i3 550

A Nehalem-based CPU, using 2 HT-enabled 32 nm Westmemere cores, running at 3.2 GHz.

The case, with the motherboard removed.

An optical drive, and an HDD hotswap bay.

The GPU originally used in here: a GT330 with 2GB of DDR3 VRAM.

An SLI connector?! I have another one too, maybe I should do something.....

The old PSU: a Delta 300W.

And the new PSU: a CX430M.

This is the CPU cooler. I see no point in this, they could've just used the Intel stock cooler.

You probably noticed the screws now. And now you're sure that it had a backplate. How does it attach? Very simple.

Tape. Double-sided tape. Yup, that's how it was. Nope, it has never come off.

Finally, the IO shield, which looks a lot better than most ones.

I don't really have much from this one.

The CPU cooler, installed on the CPU. Barely fits into the case.

The drive cage, with a WD Blue inside.

And finally the power supply.

The PENTIUM-PC, now SEMPRON-PC

These shots were taken before I got the new motherboard.

In here, I had already replaced the PSU and the hard drive. The PSU is a Seasonic S12II-430BG. Pretty good, if it was modular.

Here's some Hitachi 1 TB drive I got from PC number 2.

2 Optical drives, one IDE, the other SATA.

Ah, the stuff you get with a case from 2004. Yes, this is front USB.

This is the case with the side panel closed.

And with the side panel open! (sorry for the poor lighting, this camera has no flash)

Hope you can see that it's a Gigabyte GT630...

The IDE ODD is not connected. The PCI Host adapter blocked the GPU fan, and it didn't work anyway.

I decided to put my WD Blue (bottom) here instead, the Hitachi one had some problems. Also put my Green (top) here, because I needed to see if it was working.

and that's it. Thanks for reading!
