Fappening Celebrities Threaten To Sue Google

UselessBread

once its on the internet, there is literally no way to remove it unless you go to every single server on the planet and physically destroy the disks.

and even then somebody who has saved it to their local drive will upload it and it will go viral again.

Becuase its possible to remove something from the internet

I'm not saying it's their fault that their personal property was stolen...but seriously, you shouldn't have anything you don't want to get out on any electronic device with an internet connection -- especially if you're famous and have a massive following of potential people who want to target you.

Yes this attempt of legal action is stupid but let's not go into victim blaming please. Everyone's crazy about personal online privacy until the information stolen has boobs.

I hope Google wins if they get sued, then use their magic, to remove results if your search for the celebs at all, that would be amazing, and for those who say victim blaming is bad, if it was you, I would not feel sorry at all, the cloud is not secure, no matter what, Google, Microsoft or apple, if you want those sensitive data, store it local or not at all.

Lawyers representing the women claim Google should have been able to remove the pictures from the internet, and in failing to do so “made millions from the victimization of women,” the New York Post’s Page Six reported.

I love this part. It plays the "Google are misogynistic" card while at the same time shows a complete lack of understanding of how the Internet works.

I couldn't care less about celebrity nude photos (I basically only care about 2D porn, and I am so uninterested in celebrities that I didn't even know who the hell the people involved were) but "The Fappening" has still brought me great entertainment.

  • Just how obsessed people are with celebrities. I mean come on... You can find far more attractive people on the Internet.

  • How can people be so bad at holding their cameras the right way? Seriously, you hold it in landscape mode, not portrait. How is this so hard to understand?

  • I am amazed by the sheer number of pictures and celebrities involved. I had no idea that taking nude photos and uploading them to the Internet was something so many people did. Makes you wonder how many people you know have done it...

  • People saying this is an attack against women even though their boyfriends have been in many many pictures. I guess it's only bad if a women is seen naked, right? Also, it's apparently an attack on half the worlds population even though only ~100 people are involved. It's like me saying that I am a victim because male US soldiers are being shot in war. You are not a victim unless you're actually involved. You're not involved just because the victim happened to be the same gender as you (the same applies to race, religious belief, sexual orientation etc).
  • People are using "the images of McKayla Maroney is child pornography!" as a defense and reason for them to be taken down. The problem with that argument is that if it's true, then McKayla should be arrested for the very, very serious crime of producing child pornography (and the people she sent the images to should be charged for possessing them as well). I like this one the most because it demonstrates how really messed up child porn laws are (a 17 year old taking photos of herself and sending it to her boyfriend is classified as a very serious crime, but actually having sex with her would be okay). It also demonstrates how extremely hypocritical some people are, thinking that celebrities should be above the law (or that victims should be above the law).

  • Cancer research charities are turning down donations from Reddit because "they profited from the hacked celeb nudes". I don't really think this one is that entertaining to be honest. It's more depressing and disturbing. This is bordering on discrimination. You can't just turn down money because someone at the charity organization don't think it is morally right. The money was earned legally so why not accept it?

  • Lawyers who don't understand how the Internet works (seriously, Google isn't in control of the entire Internet) are trying to make money from this.

  • All the conspiracy theories about how the leaks happened. Some are pretty hilarious (like the one trying to get 4chan taken down) and some are

  • People taking sides on "people shouldn't have to take responsibility for their photos" vs "it should be common sense to not upload nude photos on the Internet".

Hopefully this will make people care more about privacy. I wonder how the celebrities who got their nudes leaked would react if someone went up to them and said "why hide something if you aren't doing anything wrong?".

This might actually be more effective in getting people interested in online privacy than the leaks about NSA data harvesting everyone was.

they just are butthurt, and want someone to compensate. if anyone should have been sued, its apple. or the people that hacked them

Apple has nothing to do with it, the victims were just too stupid to keep their images private.

Sue the hacker? There's a saying popular among lawyers, "Don't sue poor people." Perhaps the hacker isn't poor, but Google is a lot less poor. But the lawyers don't have a case lol.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

That line LAwLz quoted about porn being inherently misogynistic relates to a lot of extremist and hypocritical people that constantly try to attach their Feminist cause where it doesn't necessarily applies

Next time they'll grow brains before uploading naked pictures online. Lets see how silly they look when they fail.
