Hopefully soon we will see the 8350 go up against the 4670k on multi threaded apps. Because I suspect AMD will win.

By the looks of things, Broadwell and Skylake will be the CPUs to look out for.

Sandy Bridge is the highest TDP of the bunch and I am running 4.5GHz on air cool.  71*C in prime 95, @ 30*C ambient.  It's not stable b/c my boards going bad but it was for over a year.

Specs: Core I7-2600K @ 4.5GHz @ 1.35V, 4x4GB Corsair Vengeance Black 1600MHz CL9, Cooler Master Evo 212, MSI Z77 Mpower Motherboard, Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 Vapor-X @ 1000/1400, Cooler Master HAF 932 Blue Edition w/ 3 Cougar Hydraulic Bearing 120MM fans (2 up top 1 in the bottom) replaced side panel with a window, and rear fan with a Cougar Hydraulic Bearing 140MM, Cooler Master GX 650 80+ Bronze PSU, Samsung DVD-RW, Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SSD, Seagate 750GB SATA III 7200RPM

This is a gtx 480 card. As we all know, the hottest of them all! this guy managed to cool 600W on air just because of the large chip dissipation area!

Now a fingernail sized chip with two cpu thermal paste on top of each other, one of wich(the more important one) is low quality...guess the result!

The Haswell is not a fail chip, it is great in fact, but the problem is that we see no real world improvement over the last gen, only if you have a 4+ year old system is it worth upgrading, same is with AMD Piledriver is a good chip but even with them, what did we get that was revolutionary since the 2600k ?

 

I'm kinda sad that we aren't seeing big improvements anymore in the desktop market. I mean especially compared to ARM, there's almost no evolution. Even with graphics cards; 2 years ago I bought a 2500k + 570 and if right now (2 years later) I paid the same for a rig with similar components I'd only see a 15-25% increase in performance. This is bad for both the consumers who want more power, game developers that want to push their games' graphics and especially the desktop market. I mean if they are going to be focusing on the mobile market that much, the desktop might lose its biggest advantage over those stupid laptops :/

as for gpu-s they do improve every 2 generations my 670 would smash your card any day by over 30%, and same goes for the 700 series, gpu-s are fine, it's the CPU-s that worry me.

 

Since we are running out of ways to shrink processes and the ending of silicon chips it is no wonder that every generation we see less performance, today clock speeds are becoming irrelevant and core count has more influence.

If intel wanted to give use performance they should have made i5-s at least 4 core Ht chips, and lower ( 1150 ) i7-s at least 6 cores with and without hyperthreading.

 

If linus would just disable HT on his sandy bridge 2011, leave it like that, there would be no competition with today's Ivy or existing Haswell chips, you can oc it much more, and the heat would be reasonable, not to mention real core vs HT core is a no brainer...

Suspected so, was reading quite a few reviews and saw (http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2013/06/01/intel-core-i7-4770k-cpu-review/8) 4,7 ghz @ 1.257v with a h100i reaching 98c

How in the heck is the acceptable? my 3570K is at 4.7 (okay 4.687) on a Zalman CNPS 9900max, and under load I honestly only hit about 60's.

Guys I need some advice. I thought Haswell would be going in the new rig I'm building for gaming and getting into more serious overclocking...now I don't know what to do. 

 

1. Should I go with the Sandy Bridge, but then sacrifice newer motherboards?

2. Should I save up and go with the new Extreme edition CPU's?

3. Should I attempt to delid the Haswell chips? (I'm new to building, so am *VERY* uncomfortable with this)
