So my friend bought himself a GPU for his pre built PC (not sure what its called, not the greatest but its okay) and he wanted to play some better games, so i recommended the R9 270x Graphics card as seen here. He bought it, i installed it, turned it on, and it seems to be all working. image is displaying, and it all seemed to be okay, but then after the driver installed and he restarted his PC, the resolution of the computer changed and it didn't seem to get him above 37 fps on minecraft, pretty sure this can't be right. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

My Build: | CPU: Intel Core i5 4570 | Mobo: ASUS H81M-C mATX | PSU: Corsair CX750 | Storage: Seagate 1000GB SSHD | RAM: 16GB Vengance (x2 8GB) | Case: Zalman Z11+ | GPU: XFX HD 7970 DD Edition 3GB DDR5

Minecraft doesn't seem a particularly good example. Isn't it extremely CPU-restricted?

i dont believe so, but you would expect some fps improvement anyhow wouldn't you?

Are the old drivers uninstalled?

Yeah Minecraft has a slider to lock the FPS, it's entirely possible he messed with it.

Minecraft is not a good example of a game that uses your GPU. Maybe try some benchmarks to test.

He hasn't had a previous GPU, so i wouldn't have had any drivers i don't think.

Then you need to disable the integrated graphics in the BIOS

Would help if we could see the full system specs. If your friend was running an AMD APU before, then it will help if you completely uninstall all AMD drivers and software, then re-install the drivers again - starting with a clean slate.

He might have, a lot of them do.

They all do. ;)

But it depends on what they were running prior. (why I asked for full specs). If it was Intel Integrated graphics, there's no need to uninstall those drivers. It will just simply stop using the on-board graphics, switch to the new GPU and you can install the new AMD drivers.

I just got a r9 280 and had similar issues. I just uninstalled drivers and re installed and it seems to be working fine now on everything aside from minecaft actually.

I run my own indie game company called Color Dragon Studios where we are currently making a 2d platformer game called Small Earth.

Okay, like what? Im not too familiar on how to benchmark :S

A benchmark is a program you run, which tests your system, many of them are graphically intense, so they mostly test your GPU. With these test you can see how good your PC kind of performs. Few examples: MSI Kombuster, Heaven Benchmark and I'm there are more.
