In 5 years. Maybe. I mean most devices still do not have regular ass USB 3.0.

Hopefully in the next few years. It is going to take time for it to become a standard.

Even then, there will still need to be the current standard on everything for backwards compatibility.

What do they know of England, who only England know?

they will start releasing device with and slowly wait for it to become standard, it takes time for a new connector to come in

I guess so... especially for a ubiquitous standard like USB. Lightning is only a thing because it's proprietary and Apple forced people to adopt it (which was a good thing)

the issue with redoing usb is if they forced adoption it would cost way too much, id have to replace or adapted so many connectors.

I know, that's why it's gonna be a hell of a lot slower than proprietary technologies because it's a) standard and b) not backwards compatible like the rest of the technologies.

I hope it just becomes an implementation of USB 3.1 (10Gbps), but given that 3.1 will have to be backwards compatible and that C will have 100W max output, I'm not sure...

Its fully backwards compatible with a single passive adapter. All you need a a USB 3.0 A to USB 3.1 C adapter and you literally have 90%+ of devices covered.

adapters are just annoying, they also remove the advantages

well they'll be needed for connecting older devices to newer hardware or newer devices to older hardware. The nice thing is you'll only need on adapter for doing either thing.

Also I assume you could buy a whole new cable if you want but an adapter would just be cheaper easier and more convenient since it'll work with all devices.

Great, so now all these wonderful USB ports on my new motherboard are obsolete.

yep before they were even made.

Whatever, buy a PCI card 2-3 or 4 years down the road when you need a port. No use complaining, and no point holding the tech back.

I'm egar to see it implementation start rolling out.

Eh, PCI cards are holding the tech back a LOT more. It's kind of ridiculous that so many motherboards still come with PCI slots.

Could you go into detail about this? I think they're pretty nice to have.

What do you still use a PCI slot for?

I don't see how they are going to push that 20 amp standard (100w @ 5v). I mean 20 amps is a lot of current to be pushing off of a smart phone or laptop for example, so their will need to be some sort of protection system.

It doesn't always push 100w. Just like USB now the devices uses what it needs.

Yes that is basics of electronics, what I'm saying is all devices need to be able to support or somehow cut off access to that much power or else you will have no battery. Its like the old 500mW standard that means any USB HOST must be able to support that.
