So I did some tests. I have discovered my 4670k maxes out at 4.5GHz, which is fine. I cranked it as far as I was comfortable to 1.299v but the amount of heat wasn't worth the risk for just +100MHz. Instead I am experimenting with the Core Cache multiplier now. I had it at x38 for the longest time but have now bumped to x40 and noticed a good bump to my physics score.

 

Think I'll spend some time and dial in my adaptive voltages now so SpeedStep knocks down voltage as well as multiplier. Surprisingly enough I can use SpeedStep now, before on Windows 7 I could not.

 

My 970 also continues to surprise. I'm at +210 Mem and +170 Core with no sign of issues so I'll keep pushing that also.

 

*Edit: Bah. This 970 is not nearly as good an overclocker as my previous one. Memory maxes out at +210 and core at +194.

at stock with 1 card I was getting 11617 which is quite bad as I thought a 970 was on par with a 290x?

In most circumstances dual 970's are on par with a single 980ti in terms of frame rate, stock vs stock and oc vs oc, if I were to upgrade it would have to be dual 980ti's to get a justifiable performance gain. I just finished my liquid cooling loop for the 970's recently and to be honest with games like witcher 3 and the like, we will be waiting until the next generation of cards in sli to get 60fps constant at 4k res.

 

However on fire strike Ultra my score of 5631 is currently the highest score for dual 970's with a 4690k

if the titan X was at stock speeds then sure, most tests done that I have read or watched on youtube show sli'd 970's beating single 980ti and titan X in most games (but not all)

 

So I can well believe that at 1600mhz core and 2000mhz memory they would destroy a titan x (stock clocks)

4K is overrated, 1440P 144hz where it is at. I really hope the Pascal series has Displayport 1.3 or 1.4 support for 4K @ 120hz

1440p is very very nice however sitting 20" away from a 28" 4k screen. . . there is no substitute for that level of image quality
