LTT 3DMark Thread

if the titan X was at stock speeds then sure, most tests done that I have read or watched on youtube show sli'd 970's beating single 980ti and titan X in most games (but not all)

 

So I can well believe that at 1600mhz core and 2000mhz memory they would destroy a titan x (stock clocks)

Two stock G1 Gaming 970's are like 2k firestrike above the Titan X, if you overclock both the G1 gaming cards would scale even farther due to better power delivery and being binned.

how far can you safely push a 6-pin power connector? I have a corsair RM850W PSU.

how far can you safely push a 6-pin power connector? I have a corsair RM850W PSU. 

That connector is 75W, any graphics card with a 6 pin connector can be maxed out easily with a 500W PSU.

That connector is 75W, any graphics card with a 6 pin connector can be maxed out easily with a 500W PSU.

I have two 970's in sli with dual 6-pin connectors for each. I am trying to find out how much current you can ut through them safely. at the moment I am putting 113W through each one totalling 301W per card, at this level though I am still seeing PWR in GPU-z sometimes

What is the power limit for each card?

The stock power limit was 111% although it would only go 108% before throttling.

 

On custom bios the power limit is 178% although it never goes above 140% before throttling

You can only use around 225W of power per card due to the connectors. I myself would love to be able to draw 300W with my G1 Gaming (if I ever have it running fully stable again).

You can only use around 225W of power per card due to the connectors. I myself would love to be able to draw 300W with my G1 Gaming (if I ever have it running fully stable again).

The G1 gaming has 8-pin and 6-pin does it not? if so then you could draw 300W without even over-current

Apart from needing a cover for the cable tunnel, how'd I go? This is my 'fun' rig which I haven't benchmarked for HWBOT yet.

Gigabyte has the power limit set below 300W however.

So just edit the bios?

Tried that-and found that I'm better off leaving it alone for now, modding the bios in any way makes the instability worse.

The six-pin connector uses two +12 V wires to carry up to 75 W, whereas the eight-pin connector uses three +12 V wires to carry up to 150 W. Although these figures are what the specifications allow, the wires and terminals of each connector are technically capable of handling much more power. Each pin in the PCI Express auxiliary power connectors is rated to handle up to 8 amps of current using standard terminals—more if using HCS or Plus HCS terminals. By counting the number of terminals, you can calculate the power-handling capability of the connector.

Only two +12 V pins are used in the six-pin connector, even though most power supplies include three.

Even though the specification allows for a delivery capability of 75 W (six-pin connector) or 150 W (eight-pin connector), the total power-handling capacity of these connectors is at least 192 and 288 W, respectively, using standard terminals, and even more using the HCS or Plus HCS terminals.

I see it is your 'combined' score that is low, everything else is ok, perhaps you are throttling when the cpu and gpu's are working full load at the same time
