Today my dad got angry at me and threatened to unplug my PC. As I do everytime he says this, I respond "If it wrecks anything you're paying for it", which usually makes him stop. But today, he said

"Johnnie who are you fooling? It's just data."

Well, how about not making him mad ?

My dad has been kinda irritable lately because he doesn't have a job.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

I can't. He was a heavy-duty mechanic for like 20+ years.

He's mostly right. At least on Linux and other Unix derived OSes he would be. I'm not sure if you're using Unix or...Windows...*shudders*

Technically unplugging a pc can only corrupt data mate, it's literally the worst that could happen if he just unplugs the socket from the wall.

Yes.

The magic juice of which you speak is known as cheap tequila and bad marijuana, AKA DLLs, the registry, and all of the other antiquated facilities of Windows.

Also at its core Windows is completely different, because it's completely closed source and thus nobody knows what's REALLY going on down there. Linux is fairly OK with emergency shutoffs, as is OS X.

windows is fine in most cases, and the father's statement still stands though, it's just data. It'll only cost the kid a format or windows reload to fix it, nothing major so no real "cost" involved so your previous statement is even true with windows. The father is correct, the kid owns an expensive pc and is over protective of it and misinformed.

windows is fine in most cases,

That's hilarious.

For everyone who thinks this, I advise reading Neal Stephenson's famous excellent essay on the subject of Linux' and OS X' superiority over Windows. It is hilarious and very educational too:

I've read this, I understand, What I meant by "windows works fine in most cases" is that windows won't corrupt just because of a sudden loss of power, people have had it happen quite often and if I weren't gaming a lot I'd probably be running just linux. Also this post won't change people into going for linux instead of windows. It's a TL;DR post and people don't like that. All people care about is that things should work when they start it. And for most users windows does that so they have no reason to their knowledge to have to change.
