windows is fine in most cases, and the father's statement still stands though, it's just data. It'll only cost the kid a format or windows reload to fix it, nothing major so no real "cost" involved so your previous statement is even true with windows. The father is correct, the kid owns an expensive pc and is over protective of it and misinformed.

What if he had bitcoins on his hard drive :P lol

It was only a matter of time before this turned into a osx/linux vs windows argument....

And for most users windows does that so they have no reason to their knowledge to have to change.

Exactly. Just don't be too rude to the gorilla!

Technically unplugging a pc can only corrupt data mate, it's literally the worst that could happen if he just unplugs the socket from the wall.

He thinks unplugging the power = unplug the data. I think he thinks that the electricity is data. IDK.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Data is electricity, so some electricity IS data. He's not wrong, but really...not right either.

That's hilarious.

For everyone who thinks this, I advise reading Neal Stephenson's famous excellent essay on the subject of Linux' and OS X' superiority over Windows. It is hilarious and very educational too:

http://garote.bdmonkeys.net/commandline/index.html

But all my games are on windows. If I wanted to switch to a different platform, the majority of my games would have to be compatible.

Well yes. So your PC is more of a console than it is a computer, hmm?

Either way Mac OS has tons of interfaces with windows running in a window..Linux can do the same. Games are not really a threat to different operating systems if you know how to work them.

Who denies that? Seems a bit unrelated to bring up OS X.

My point was that these days Windows is more of a gaming system than it is an actual OS for most people, they just use it to play their games and browse the web.

I built a PC to play games well on it. That's it's current purpose. Other then the occasional work.

If there's a way for me to play windows games on linux. Pray tell sir.

I do know there are programs and crap you can run to simulate windows so you can play games on it like it was windows. IDK much about that stuff though. Although I do have an extra SSD laying around, so I could potentially install linux on that and try it out :P

I'm expecting @Builder to know about that stuff. Considering his position and what he's said so far. I don't really venture outside of windows.

Perhaps if gaming was your purpose then you would have been better served with a console, no? Perhaps computers can do more and should do more besides gaming, hmm?

I can't live playing games off a console. Especially because it doesn't have games like Tribes or Planetside 2. + 30 FPS burns. And I like nice graphics :P

Wow someones in a nice mood tonight aren't they? Jesus a guy brings up a point and someone has to throw a fit cause it wasn't related even tho on the last page people were just saying that Linux and Mac OS X were better then windows. Also no thats a horribly idea consoles suck....I mean they are about 5 years behind computers if even that. Why don't you try being helpful rather then bashing on how we use our computers? We don't tell you how to use yours do we?

Bullshit. Stop looking at the FPS and play the damn game. You're not doing it competitively, you're doing it to have fun, right? As long as it's smooth who cares whether it's at 30FPS?

I'm always like this. Get used to it.

Throwing a fit? I was replying to someone asking why they built a computer just to play games and you quoted me saying that OS X and Linux can do the same things. The two are so unrelated I can't even imagine how it happened.

Consoles don't suck. You've been brainwashed into thinking they do by people who care more about the FPS and the "graphics" than they do about the quality of the fucking game. A good game will be no better at 1080p 60FPS than at 1080p 30FPS. They also aren't five years behind, they're very current, now their performance might equal the average of five years ago, but the whole point of a console is providing a stable platform on which to optimize games. Consoles also draw far less power than PCs and are easier to use. PCs can do so much more than game, the whole "gaming PC" thing drives me nuts, though of course that's what people who use Windows do with their computers.

A lot of people here do tell me how to use my computer, as it's a Mac and a lot of people here don't like that for some childishly immature reason. They also tell me my consoles suck, and that I should have built a PC instead. Nope. Games don't deserve an entire PC. That's what consoles are for. PCs are for creating stuff, not consuming it.

Well then whats so different about you shoving your opinion down peoples throat? Seriously you have pissed me off right now...in your opinion games don't deserve a full pc. I don't believe this either...but I will play games on a pc because it has better stability then consoles and I actually prefer games on pc over an xbox or whatever. And for your information I dont use my pc for just gaming...as a matter of fact its kinda rare that I get completely into a game. So kindly take your opinion somewhere else...and don't say I've been brainwashed you ignorant self centered person.

The difference is that my opinion is right. ;)

The thing is, consoles don't suck for their intended purpose: playing games. The whole #PCMasterRace thing is stupid, it marks you as someone who actually cares enough about how people play their games to the point where they're willing to call people who care more about the game than the FPS peasants. Just PTFO and stop caring about your FPS; be glad that it's smooth and move on. The best games transcend the quality of the machines they are played on.

Call me ignorant and self centered. What someone on the other side of the internet says about me couldn't hurt me less than it does right now.

There isn't a way. Play Valve games.

I honestly don't care what you do. I just can't understand spending extra on a PC just for playing games.

Opinions can't be right m8.

They technically can if based on solid facts, which have not yet been layed out.
