I read that they have problems being mounted horizontally. Have you experienced that at all? Been thinking of trying some.

Not at all, they mount every which way.  They are the most well built fans I have ever layed my hands on.  They are heavier than you would expect a case fan to be, but that is a testament to the quality German engineering.  I have them vertical, and horizontal in my case,

 

In the US, you can buy them for $5 or $10.  They are on sale right now for $5 through TigerDirect. For the money, there is not a better fan available.
