GTX 780 vs 290x (Yes we've been here over and over again)

Miggles

Hello guys!
I come here to ask you guys, without fanboying please, which is the best one to go with?
I currently have a Radeon 7770, and I didn't have problems with the card, but I'm rather split between both cards.
Take in mind I'm buying the card in December or January, and that it will go with these specs.

SPECS:

Motherboard: Asrock Pro3 Z77

CPU: i5 3570k OC to 4.0 Ghz
CPU Cooler: h110
Ram: 8gigs GSkillz 1600+ mhz
PSU: I don't know what to get either yet.
HDD 1TB Seagate + 64Gigs ADATA SSD.

Wich card will be the best for my specs?

Everyone will say 290X but I like the 780.

The 290 alone is better than the 780... Save your money.

Wait for the GTX 800 series. Which is supposed to be coming out either next month or the month after.

Welcome to the forum

Depends what do you want to do with it and what brand of card it is. I would personally go with the GTX 780 just because I like the Nvidia features but if you have no use for any of them the R9 290x is a great card. IF you do decide to go Nvidia wait for the 800 series to be released. It's coming soon. :)

Hope this helped

Yes, I feel mysel prefering the 780. But 290x is the same price as a 780 and LOOKS better in performance wise.

Still I don't know.

R9 290 > GTX 780 in a lot of scenario's so the R9 290x will stomp on the GTX 780. However if you want cooler/lower power draw go GTX 780 (Also for things like PhysX if you're into that). However if you want more bang for your buck then go R9 290 (Sapphire Tri-x, vapor-x or Powercolor PCS+)

Well gaming mostly, and rendering some videos.

Rumor has it 800 series comes out soon. 880 if you're buying it that late.

Well I do have a money limit for the card. It wouldn't be very nice if it was 100$ more than the current price of the 780

720p sadly. Cheap TV is accepted as 1080p by Windows but gets a bit blurry.

December is quite a while from now. I'd suggest looking later. Parts and prices change quite frequently.

The gtx 880 is rumored to be around the performance of the 780ti. You might want to consider the 870.

That's why you stop buying nvidia cards. Get the 290 and you'll be set for 1440p gaming for quite some time.

The 880 is said to be much cheaper than it is now. More like $300-$400 for it

Benchmarks bruh. Anandtech, Bit-tech, Guru3d. Google 290X benchmarks or gtx 780 benchmarks, look at how much fps they're getting in the same games and decide for yourself.

1. You'll be saving money in the process.

2. Why the hell would you choose the 290x over the 290 for such a small gain in performance? Is this even your money or are your parents spoiling you? This is the burning question because if it really is your cash then why wouldn't you want to save money?

Also, don't call me a fanboy. I have a 780 and I've regretting the purchase ever since. I support both companies because let's face it, nobody wants a f***king monopoly.

Nope it's my money.

And yeah I'm looking 290 now. Pretty cheaper. CUDA is proprietary while Mantle is community supported. Might go with 290
