Motherboards are big, where, in the socket?

Clean it off using a non-fibrous cloth such as a coffee filter, make sure it is cleaned off, and check if it works.

edit: I should have considered what @BloodWithIce said first. Tell us this, and then probably do my thing.

I really wish that we'd just make organic hardware already, that grows and adapts to the demands it needs to meet. That way, grannies' computers can be floppy sacks of organicness and the 12 year old Minecrafters will look like the guys that only do bicep curls, and the nerdy programmers will finally have justice, with their body-builder rigs that skipped leg day.

Very gently dab/wipe the affected area? Do not spread it... Is it on the actual circuits/metal electric things or on plastic?

Well what thermal paste is it and just take the battery out and and get it off.

 

This problem is just like water, water(and conductive paste) both act as another method of transport for the electrcity and so then electricity is transported to an area where it shouldnt you short something out also water and paste dont have resistors so their voltage and current is uncapped.

 

Bottem line is that if there is no current there shouldnt be a problem.

If it's on the motherboard itself, wipe it. If it's in the socket, let it dry and then grab a pair of anti static tweezers and CAREFULLY remove the remains and watch out for the pins.

Just wipe it off the board has a coating on it so its not going to short out unless you got in on a contact or inside your CPU socket then you're basically f*****.

OK I need to what motherboard u have so I can google a photo and understand where the paste is.

Or is the paste on the plastic cover of the CPU socket or in it or what?

maximus vi hero thermal paste on circuit on side of cpu facing ram and on cpu holding thing and on top of cpu on non metal part.
