Choosing Modular PSU's over non Modular PSU's

Vicente Gomez

What are the pro's and con's of choosing a modular of a non modular psu? Does it really matter?

Better cable management and you can remove cables you don't need on a modular PSU

recommend a psu that is fully modular, and at least 750 watts and under 100 bucks? I want to crossfire in the future and it would use up about 704 watts

Modular PSUs have no cables attached, that way you only connect what you need to save space and make the case have a cleaner look, while non modular PSUs have all the cables already attached.

the main selling point for me was just the fact that i could re sleeve all the cables without voiding the warranty (at least on corsair and EVGA power supply) which is something you can't do on any power supply that has non modular cables as far as i know, i also went with an EVGA super nova because the warranty was 10 years which to me means they're pretty confident that its going to last (or at least that you wont care to RMA it that far down the road)

under 100

There's only 2 fully modular power supplies that deliver 800W (or more) and they're not what I'd consider very reliable. The Corsair RM850 is the closest reliable one to $100.

Edit: Though, JonnyGuru gave this a 9.9/10.

Personally not a fan of EVGA power supplies, however JonnyGuru is a much more reliable source. The other power supply under $100 is XFX who generally have poor customer support.

I'm using the RM750 on mine atm. Had it for about 8 months without the first problem.

jonny guru's reviews carry weight in the psu side of computing - If he recommends something, you can be sure it's top notch. If you're serious about that evga, get it before the special is over, I would of.

The most common result of insufficient wattage is a paperweight that looks like a PC

I have a semi modular, I have no idea why you would need a fully modular. It's not like you won't be using the cpu and mobo cables.

The EVGA is streets ahead of the Corsair.
