OWC Mercury Pro and a decent blu ray drive.

my little usb drive is fine but it’s a bit unstable and the vibration protection kicks in pretty often which slows the drive down to 4x speeds

48x cd read speeds will be super useful for ripping cds

my budget was extremely tight so that's the best i could get and 4c/8t is still nice for 1080p gaming, as i am still rocking a 1050 ti and will do for quite sometime, i would have nothing to complain on the cpu side of things

My newest purchase of late,

I finally went and got myself a nice newer car instead of the 20+ year old beaters I usually drive. It’s a 2017 Chevy Cruze LT, 67,500Km on it and it’s in MINT shape. Makes me feel proud to drive it.

Over the last 3 months I built myself a server rack for home use, kinda inspired by Linus´s rack he uses at home videos.

IMG_20230507_172730.thumb.jpg.5ddc1a7d6ae52921cdc65a8b0bcaeb1c.jpg

It´s a 42U Rack from Startech.
Networking on the bottom so I dont have to pull all the wires to the top of the rack.
Managed Allied Telesis 1G Switch, Mikrotik 10G Switch, Patch Panel 1freeU for one managed HP switch, an insert tray with an opensense firewall, cheap switch and raspi 3.

The Server on the bottom with 16 drive bays is one of my cold storage machines. Its 12 4TB drives and 2 512GB SSDs using truenas.
Above this one there are 3 Sliger 4U and 1 Sliger 3U Cases. The bottom 4U Case is my soon to be new homeserver with a 5950x on an asrock rack board with ipmi and 10G and 128GB ECC RAM. I´d love to use this with only flash storage, but I´d need about 40TB of SSD Storage which is fucking expensive. The one above is the PC for my livingroom. 5900X x570 Strix and 3070TI Founders. The last 4U is still empty. The 3U is empty in the pic but I will build in it today. On top of the rack is a Dell Optiplex Micro running unraid which I use to access my home network when I´m on the go and as a download vm for linux ISOs. It will be replaced by the PC in the 3U Case. i5 13500 on a cheap Z690 board and 32GB of RAM. Yesterday I got my 1TB 980 Pro OS drive and my 2TB 990Pro Data-drive.

IMG_20230525_152634.thumb.jpg.f7f21c965e85c5cdede47b954a3fea2d.jpg

Today my Arctic Liquid Freezer 360 will arrive so I can finally put it all together.

All of the sliger cases use Arctic liquid Freezer II 360 AIOs. 3 of them with EK Vardar RGB Fans I have lying around and the new server has Phanteks D30 fans.

Above the Sliger Rack cases is my Silverstone CS381 backup PC. It has an i7 8700k on a b360 board I got for free because it had bent pins, an EK AIO 240 at the back and a random old RAID card I pulled out of a workstation at work. About 2 Weeks ago I got 8x 8TB recertified WD Ultrastar drives to put inside it for just 72€ per drive. RAID 5 and 6 performance of teh controller sucks so I will probabyl run it in RAID 10 or 50. RAID 10 is very close to not having enough storage in like 2 years, RAID 50 is not as fast but still fast enough and gives me way more storage.
It´s also a codl storage that just gets all files dumped on it like once a year like the one on the bottom.
On the top there is my Optiplex Micro with an i7 10700T and 64GB RAM. I already explained its usecase.

And on it´s left there is my favourit backup PC.
It´s in a chenbro case with 4 hotswap bays filled with 4 WD ultrastar 20TB drives, a Asus C chipset for intel 8th gen and a i7 8700 xeon equivalent I literally found in the trash and 32GB ECC RAM. Noctua L9x65 cooler keeps its all quiet and an Intel X550-T2 10G Card. It runs Truenas and is the backup machine I use the most since it´s fast, reliable and quiet. It´s very similar to those synology NAS thingys, but unlike those it´s not fucking garbage components.

Als yesterday I got my hands on another sliger mini ITX console like case for very cheap. Here are some Pics

IMG_20230525_213131.thumb.jpg.8074542045b75deae593e55f1d0e6823.jpg

IMG_20230525_213914.thumb.jpg.f5e3b954c2ea2f93a483d323f6b6fefc.jpg

It´s a really cool case but since I already have pretty mcuh everything rack mounted I kinda don´t know what to do with it.
Maybe I´ll use it for something, maybe it will just sit there for months, maybe I will build a pc for one of my siblings... i don´t fucking know.
If anyone has a cool idea of what to do with it, i´d like to hear it.

Turbo? You'll need this at some point.

https://cruzekits.com/shop/ols/products/v3-gm-14l-turbo-luvluj-pcv-check-valve-fix-kit/v/V3-USA

Never have I ever seen a turbo 1.4 that didn't need one or both, the valve cover or intake manifold replaced due to ruptured PCB or missing check valve. Even on the non turbo 1.8L the PCV inside the valve cover is a common fail, it's wise to get the metal valve cover available in the after market so you can service just the diaphragm much more cheaply as they fail repeatedly. There might be a fix for that now similar to above but I haven't looked into it yet.

Otherwise, one of the nicer small domestic cars to drive! It feels like an older gen Civic/Corolla in terms of driving experience overall which isn't a bad thing.

Finally got fed up with my bi-fold $100 bill wallet being big, annoying, catching all of the shit in my pocket, and looking very middle school-esque (which makes sense because that's when it was given to me) and I got a Ridge wallet. So far only complaint is that the way the AirTag clip works, it's always squeezing down on it so the button part of the AirTag no longer functions... Which also means if you lose it you get like 10 seconds before you have to send the sound alert thing again.

I also got my second G203 (which isn't pictured) since I'm too lazy to figure out what parts I need to get to repair my G Pro Wireless as the back button is almost completely shot and that's kind of important to have for FPS games. Up until now I've just been plugging in the first one I got for my totally-legal movie ripping PC, however that was annoying to do and I had a $10 off coupon at work which when paired up with being on sale for $27.99 and my 10% discount... Yeah, it's a bargain. Usually I hate wired mice but between the G203 being a nice light mouse like the GPW and the fact that the cable is small/lightweight and not braided, I actually don't mind it.

Is it worth the price? Been considering a ridge myself, but seems like a lot to pay for a wallet. Also how does it work with cards with raised numbers?

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

I don't use a ridge but i've got a card wallet similar.  Raised cards I alternate their orientation so that sit flatter.  keep them all facing the same way as to not destroy the chips in them but put numbers at bottom on one then top on the next

I, luckily, have an older 20 gal 5"HP" compressor that works great with my Ingersoll Rand 2903P 1/2" impact and some IR 3/8" air rachet I got on eBay for cheap that works alright, just wish it had more power. That impact gun I got at a yard sale many years ago for $40, such a steal!

I'm not particularly a fan of battery powered tools for auto due to the batteries going bad after a couple years and well with the pneumatic stuff, it's just a lot more fun to use imo. Hoses do get cumbersome sometimes but I'm not one to complain compared to batteries.

Since it's Snap-On, you'd most likely get a good resell value if you do choose to part with it.

Yeah, good resell and I have enough knowledge to be able to rebuild a battery pack like these use. I've got one older pack that's getting weak I think I'm going to do that with and maybe have a friend 3D print an extended housing so I can put in 2 more cells for a total of 6 instead of 4 for a fair bit more capacity and runtime especially when using higher capacity cells, it also spreads the wear over more cells for better battery life.

Thankfully my '17 doesn't have either the LUV or the LUJ engines, it's a new variant...the LE2 and it looks nothing like the LUV and LUJ. Seems GM might have refreshed the engine.

Well that's a relief! Hopefully they didn't just change to different problems like the shattering vacuum pumps on the other Ecotec engines. Thankfully they don't usually break the camshaft or damage the cylinder head.
