[Finished] The Renewal - 1080mm rad, 6700k, Z170 Asrock OC Formula, 980 Ti Matrix

Lays

I've decided I love the crap out of the HD800, but for the money they cost, I'd rather spend the money on making modifications to my buildlog.

How do you guys feel about me getting a Corsair k70 RGB, an Air 540, a Crucial MX100 512GB, Logitech G27, and two 970s. I'm still trying to figure out what to do with all of it right now.

Also, I'm going to send back my Cryorig for a refund and get an H105 instead, so I can open up my CPU socket area, I mean it is yellow after-all :P

I want to go 4k in the future, and use my current 1440p monitor as a second screen, so I really need 2 GPU's for the future.

Another option is buying a second 290x lightning, but that's another 22 wires I'd have to figure out how to manage & another like 300 watt+ TDP. My sidepanel barely closes right now without me having to smash it shut, even with nice cable management, let alone with another 22 wires..

This is what I'm looking at getting if I sell my 290x lightning as well:  http://pcpartpicker.com/p/XfqCt6

Lemme know what you guys think.

If you were going to sell your lightning, which you might be able to get away with, i wouldn't advise two 970's. I'd wait for the 390x and nvidia's inevitable reaction. 980ti/1080 anyone?

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

I really want two GPU's doe :c  especially if they have super low TDP, like the 970 does.

But if you get rid of the lightning the yellow and black color scheme won't be there anymore

The G1 970 is all black and I can get more yellow+black cables from icemodz. (the only thing being the LED that isn't black)

I was thinking about changing the LED in the 970's to yellow, but I'm unsure where to get LED's to replace it.

I could possibly take a sharpie and color on the LED since they're blue, (the LED, not the logo) if I colored green with a sharpie it may come out in a yellow glow.

harro darren. Plz wait for the r9 390x lightning to come out and maybe xfire them

If it's triple slot with another 6+8+8 pin, I can't :( especially if it's like 300watt tdp like my 290x is :/

The 390x will probably consume less power seeing as the die will shrink. Less power = possibly less power connectors.

Life.exe is missing

I'd say the choice boils down to one thing.

AMD's features VS Nvidia's Features.

I agree with the fact that you'll need a second card to run anything at 1440 but If it were me, WHAT card I were to get is what features suit me the best. I went with AMD over Nvidia because I thought AMD had features that were more suited to how I like to play my games.

If it were me though. I'd get a second lightning and MAKE that case fit the cables!

The year is 20XX. Everyone plays Fox at TAS levels of perfection. Because of this, the winner of a match depends solely on port priority. The RPS metagame has evolved to ridiculous levels due to it being the only remaining factor to decide matches.

Only Abate, Axe, and Wobbles can save us.

But the way AMD has been going the last few gens, IDK.

I could buy a second 290x lightning, but there is honestly no way in hell I can cable manage another 22 pin cable behind my mobo tray, it's just to many wires.

And I'd have another furnace in my case, and I just don't think it's very practical.

Two 970 would be the same price + cheaper when I buy waterblocks for them, and two would take the same amount of power as my one 290x.  Not to mention they'd be faster by a bit once I start overclocking them.

Keep in mind the 290x lightning is triple slot, so the top card would literally be sitting ontop of the second cards backplate, and it'd turn into a jet engine in terms of fan speed to keep itself cool.

@NerdNinja I can already run everything I play at 1440p without issue, the reason for wanting a second card is for 4k. Because I want a second monitor, and buying another 1440p doesn't really make sense, but buying 4k for an extra $100 does.  (Then 4k will be main monitor and 1440p will be second)

I just don't think a second 290x lightning is practical/feasible for my build, it would be awesome but an extra 300+ watts and another 22 pin cable just doesn't make sense.

Well in that case you would almost have to do a custom loop. And then you would probably want a case with more space for cables and such.

I'd get the 540. But keep the 290X and wait till you could build a loop to get another one. <-- although this right here is me being a slight amd fanboy......

The thing is, doing the loop first doesn't really make sense, as buying a second 290x is cheaper than the custom loop that would cost $700 then add in an air 540 and it's like $850 basically.

It makes more sense to buy two 970s in terms of heat + power consumption + less cables to manage + easier airflow and more performance.

The thing is, say I buy another 290x + 4k monitor,  I'd have to worry about heat & noise the entire time, versus selling my 290x+block and buying two 970+ 4k monitor, I dont have to worry about heat or noise until I get my custom loop done.

Lol don't worry man! It's not my build so what do I care? I was just giving what I would do in that situation... Although I think I have a little bit of fanboyism going on. I'll have to eliminate that. ;)

What temps do you get with the 290x in the r4. Only asking as I'm thinking of downsizing from my enthoo pro to an r5 and I have a 290

~65-73 depending on the game + fan speed

I actually use V-Sync a lot, so a majority of the time my card isn't even running at full clocks or voltage, thus resulting in the temps in the 60's, when the card is under full load it's around 73.
