[Finished] The Renewal - 1080mm rad, 6700k, Z170 Asrock OC Formula, 980 Ti Matrix

Lays

So yeah, as a fellow owner of a Lightning 290x, can I say I'm jelly?

Going to be coming to you a lot when I'm doing my custom loop.

CPU: Intel 5930k cooled by H110i GT Mobo: MSI X99S XPower AC RAM: 32GB Dominator Platinum 2800mhz GPU: 2x MSi Lightning 290x SSD: 512GB 850 Pro HDD: 4&2TB WD Black PSU: Corsair AX1500i Case: Corsair 900D Monitor: 3xVG248QE  Keyboard: Logitech G910 Orion Spark  Mouse: Logitech G700s  Headset: Astro A50

The thing is, doing the loop first doesn't really make sense, as buying a second 290x is cheaper than the custom loop that would cost $700 then add in an air 540 and it's like $850 basically.

It makes more sense to buy two 970s in terms of heat + power consumption + less cables to manage + easier airflow and more performance.

The thing is, say I buy another 290x + 4k monitor,  I'd have to worry about heat & noise the entire time, versus selling my 290x+block and buying two 970+ 4k monitor, I dont have to worry about heat or noise until I get my custom loop done.

You won't fit two Lightning's in there without severe heat throttling. Trust me, I did it and had to move up to something bigger. The HDD trays on the bottom of the 540 will prevent you from putting a second three slot card into the computer.

I actually took one of mine out and it ran better with a single card, it was so bad.

Is that only with the hdd installed? Or what?

My friend sent me this from a google images search, but my top card would be one slot lower because of my top slot on my mobo being a pci-e x1, so it appears the cards will have to be squished together, or I'll have to remove the HDD cages?

I don't have any HDD's,(nor do I plan on getting any) so that wouldn't be an issue.

Yeah, If your slots further down the board, not only the HDD's but the tray itself will get in the way. I had a Sabertooth 990FX if that's any sort of help in your own there.

So just removing the trays will fix it?

I don't have hdds nor will I ever put them in, so it's not an issue for me as I'll just have two ssds. And since ssds can basically go anywhere I don't really need the trays.

Alright thanks :D

Good news I got a buyer for my headphones + amp everyone, so I'll be making a few small build log updates as well as a lot of setup updates.

It's a little bit less than I was asking for, but it gets the stuff outta my hair so it's OK.

Totally irrelevant?

Mate it's already in like a load of released games, and is slated for about a billion more

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

I've used it in BF4, didn't notice a dam difference whatsoever lol.

And seeing as DX12 will be released anytime now, isn't it supposed to be essentially the same thing? lol

I think there was a thread about AMD's Mantle, and how they wanted Intel and Nvidia to use it. People were arguing quite a bit in that forum, so you might want to read it, they have pretty good arguments too

Mantle was supposed to help take strain off of lower end CPUs and alleviate bottlenecks, it's not supposed to help us 4790k/290x guys

Once it shows up, I'll do benchmarks vs my 290x, then I'll sell my 290x+ block and buy a second 970 G1.

I'll get a magni modi later on, my onboard is fine for now.  It was about 95% of the Lyr's sound quality TBH.

Also about the classical thing, that all comes down to person preference :P
