Eye strain from computer use

Cs342

Do you guys get eye strain when you use your computers? My eyes always hurt when I'm gaming or reading articles on my PC :( Hopefully computers don't cause permanent eye damage lol

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

I do sometimes but not always, if you are you should try some GUNNAR Optiks or something, these will reduce eye strain, ive heard they work pretty well.

That is because you don't blink enough when staring at the same thing for long periods of time.

Not really unless I play in poor light conditions. If I get eye strain it's when I play for too long and I don't blink often enough, but if I wear my glasses as well with my headset I usually get headaches as well because it pushes the frame of my glasses against my head.

I'm normally using a computer 8+ hours just at work and that's not counting the time I game or anything. I don't think I have ever actually gotten a headache from looking at a monitor.

Try f.lux

blue light levels contribute to eye strain a lot, that's why the gunnars everyone talks about are yellow tinted because it's the antidote to blue.

some w-LED backlit monitors have a crazy amount of blue light in their spectrums because the LEDs are actually blue ones with yellow phosphor coating on the diode in order to appear white.

f.lux just alters the colour palette of your monitor to filter out some of the blue, it works for me and a lot of people I always have it on at night.

Obviously get an eye test to see if you may need glasses.

replace your monitor. Usually the monitor is at fault. a friend of mine started getting splitting headaches and such from eye strain and after just glancing at his monitor I told him that the monitor was the cause. now he's using my 23" while I'm on my new monitor and the eye strain is no more.

Anyway, personally no I do not, especially not with the monitor I have now, it looks so fluid and colorful, it seems more like a painting than a crappy monitor.

Few years back I got eye strain from over 3 hours of continuous computer usage. Nowadays I never get eye strain.

Never trust my advice. Only take any and all advice from me with a grain of salt. Just a heads up.

Not any more; headache and loss of focus after 48+ hours of continual work maybe (no time for gaming these days). I built my tolerance while I was young starting with 4, 6, 8, 12 and then 24 hour MMORPG sessions; it pays off now in the form of a real professional advantage!

I remember when I was young, in my C64 days I would often get eye strain... this stopped however after a few years of continual usage.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.

When you sit in front of a screen you tend to blink less often and open your eyes wider.

So remember to blink and keep your eyelids in your normal position.

I agree with using f.lux, especially later at night when trying to go to sleep I noticed using f.lux helped let me get to sleep faster.
Considering I was skeptical of it at first it honestly surprised me.

If there is a window you can see off into the distance, try to focus on something far away for a minute or so every couple hours. I try to see individual trees on the mountains, helps refocus my eyes a lot. I have excellent vision but my eyes do get all wonky if I just stare at a screen all day.

Even if I do get eye strain after using a computer, does this cause permanent damage? And my eyes hurt after 10 minutes of looking at the screen lol. For some reason they don't hurt while watching a video but only when reading articles or gaming

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
