Though my eyesight is still 20/20 or something, I get chronic dry eyes or eye strain or whatever it is since last September/October-ish. Constant discomfort in my eyes, varying amount of light sensitivity. No idea of it's related to the many entire days spent working/playing at the computer but as it is it's messing with my ability to be productive in writing my master's thesis while working on a research project while teaching and being a bit of a gamer. It hasn't gone away despite taking over an entire week away from the PC, though sitting at the PC too long now makes it worse.

Wouldn't wish that upon anyone. I've been feeling better for 2 weeks now it's still bad, and when it's at its worst I can't do much of anything. Seeing an ophthalmologist soon because optometrists don't seem worried at all. It seems like it might be a disease of some sort and might be unrelated to PC use, I don't know.

Do you guys get eye strain when you use your computers? My eyes always hurt when I'm gaming or reading articles on my PC :( Hopefully computers don't cause permanent eye damage lol

Actually, it depends on the monitor you're using. If you are using a Monitor that flickers* then it can cause severe eye strain, headaches and what-not.

*flickering happens and depends on your Refresh Rate(Hz) of your Monitor.

Humpty Dumpty was pushed.

I do sometimes but not always, if you are you should try some GUNNAR Optiks or something, these will reduce eye strain, ive heard they work pretty well.

or you can get some yellow tinted saftey glasses that are EXACTLY the same for a 10th of the cost. https://www.google.co.uk/shopping/product/8811653116436523804?q=yellow+tinted+glasses&rlz=1C1CHMO_enGB566GB566&espv=2&biw=1920&bih=912&ei=iunDU9v1EIPE7AaprIGYCg&ved=0CJ0CEKYrMBA

No, they are not

I own gunnars, they have a slight magnification which is one of the main ways they relieve eye strain, they are also anti glare which really helps tired eyes from bright backlights, sure they are yellow as it increases contrasts, but they are not the same as yellow safety glasses

in fact cheap glasses like that will not be completely clear optically, and the material will often play silly with light, or there may have imperfections which your eyes will keep trying to focus on which can increase eye strain (my oakley m frame airsoft glasses did this to me)

They do, so I take them off when editing photos and things. Honestly they do not make everything yellow, they just make everything look warmer. I can still see a blue sky and water in BF4 for example, but they just look like a really warm summers day

They actually increase contrast so you can see easier in shadows and make out the outline of players easier, after aoubt 10 minutes I forget they are on (I wear steelseries scopes)

Flux is good too I use it at work, (since I would look retarded with yellow gaming glasses on)

:D thanks i actually planned on getting a pair for home and one for work and if they had clear ones with a wide fit that would not even look crazy but since they have only mediums with clear glass im not sure i might get yellows and tell my boss that my doctor prscribed them i dont know i would low if they had clear glass wide fits

mate, I've tried gunnar glasses and have a pair of some yellow work glasses, and they are exactly the same. the work glasses are anti glare. Fair enough they arnt magnified but I don't need that anyway.

and imperfections? what imperfections. I have never encountered any glasses with imperfections that my eyes try and focus on, you must have gotten a bad pair which is quite suprising considering oakley is a good company.

Well for my I found the gunnars really helped stop me getting headaches and migraines, I go to sleep much better too. The magnification helps on my 1440p display as text is quite small, so it just makes it really clear and easy to read.

The oakleys were fine at first, but at the part where it curves it tends to bend light a little oddly and it was really distracting. I think there is more to gunnars than them just being yellow, thats all i was saying. The lenses are like cameras lens clear, they are really nice to look through and very comfy (considering I am not a glasses wearer I forget they are on sometimes and try leave the house with them on)

They are some cheaper plastic framed gunnars too, if you dont fancy the high price (or pick up the modern warfare ones cheap like my mate did and scratch off the call of duty logo)

I DO. And it's awful. I don't game that much these days but I do read a lot and after about 30 min it starts to get uncomfortable.

This really sucks if you have almost half your courses on your PC. The main reason for this is that i have a crappy TN panel, (NEVER A - F**KING - GAIN !) that i bought cuz I couldn't afford a IPS one.

I'm using f.lux and it helps a little bit but it's still very, very uncomfortable to read of it. My monitor also has a "read" preset that helps a bit but not enough.

Over the years I've gotten used to taking breaks every 1.5h when I study but as soon as I move out I'm getting an IPS and never looking back.

Sorry, gonna toss some science at you. Light is a wave that covers many different spectrums. For the light that humans are capable of seeing, the two extreme ends of the wave are red and blue light. Red is very gentle on our eyes, it's why pilots have flashlights with a red lens on them so they can read charts at night without wrecking their eyes that have become accustomed to the dark. Blue light, being the complete opposite, is very hard on the eyes, and is a very common cause of eyestrain and headaches for people using a computer all day.

That is why certain gaming monitors, like the BenQ XL series, use blue light reduction to help reduce eyestrain for hardcore gamers. There are also the Gunnar Optiks that someone mentioned earlier. You don't have to go to those extremes, you can also try adjusting the settings of your monitor to reduce it's brightness and tone down the blue highlights.

Well they obviously do not recoil or anything :P they sound freaking amazing, still sound like airsoft guns, but ... its so sexy especially burst on my mp5 hot damn jizztastic, they are built 100% scale so they grips and receivers are much slimmer than normal airsoft guns. The mp5 is like solid steel

The mags are all 30/40 rounds, and when you fire off the mag the gun stops and you have to replace the mag and press the bolt release so you can continue firing so they work very realistically. Also their performance is amazing, the TW5 is my fave, its very short and outranges peoples m14s

Yeah the realistic action is why I'm thinking of getting a GBBR (can't afford a systema) but I've heard systemas are the only airsoft guns that use the same grade steel as real firearms (that give them that distinctive feel and greyish look). I will defo get one in the future but right now i'll have to stick with my TM m933 commando

we are slightly off topic, PM if you need advice, I have owned well over 100 airsoft guns over the time, so I know a lot about most brands

GBBRs are great, BUT require lots of maintenance, and are a bit poo in the cold, I would just stick to electric

But my friend does after a few hours, ever since he went through Lasik laser eye surgery, but mostly when he gets tired.

I'm going to use this easy analogy that I heard a few years back, "You do realise that you are staring at something that is basically a big light bulb". And yes, I did get it a couple of years ago, couldn't read books anymore (and I love books). I have since swapped out my laptop, and a monitor, and the strain has slowly gone away, though I still get it after reading a book for 10 hours straight. So like someone has mentioned before, it might be the screen that's causing it, and like Linus has said several times "You're going to spend many hours looking at it, so why not invest a couple of bucks in something that's going to last for years".
