Engadget reports that the PC shipments has been in a spiral decline for years now. But they are some good news for PC manufactures. Sales appears to have flatten.

It could decline after that, but so far it is steady. The news comes form both Both Gartner and IDC.

While the two research groups don't agree completely on the numbers, it does appear that after two years of stead and sizable declines, the PC industry is seeing shipments flatten out. In total, according to Gartner, 75.8 million computers were shipped in the second quarter of 2014, a negligible 0.1 percent drop from the same quarter a year ago. While IDC saw a much more sizable 1.7 percent fall in PC shipments, that's still a far cry from the 7.1 percent decline it anticipated and the smallest it's measured in two years.

But we lost VAIO in the process. :(

VAIO is not going anywhere. They're now an independent company.

VAIO was shit. Sony fanboy *girl*

Totally a fanboy. But 2012 3rd Gen Z Series was not shit.

And the X505 was the first laptop to have a "Chiclet" or "Island" style keyboard

And the VAIO SZ was the first laptop to have switchable graphics.

And the VAIO VGN - AR70B was the first laptop to have a Blueray drive.

And the VAIO Pro is still the lightest 13" touch ultrabook you can buy, with the thinnest laptop touch display.

And the VAIO Z is still the only notbook to have a removable GPU/Blueray drive

And the VAIO Flip still has the highest convertible SRGB coverage at ~%98

Only the 2013-2014 models were shit. (Excluding the Pro)

That is all nice. But all the Sony system I have looked at and see at school, are junk quality. Plastic crack and chipping is a common issue.

Desktops?

Because their 1st gen VAIO was supposed to be just a desktop. And it was shit.

I've owned a VAIO E series, S series, VAIO FIT 15, and FIT 14A. All without chipping or cracking.

remember they are the cheaper bottem of the barrel models coming from every company. Its like comparing linus's sexy xps laptop to the dell insprions.

Just a correction, the new insprions have pretty nice quality.

Its like comparing anything from a decent company to something that HP has made.

Can we see the component trend because I am guessing that component purchase has been on the rise and probably makes up the rest of the decrease in PC all in one shipments (pre-built PC's).

PC sales are irrelevant. Most of the "PC sales" are companies buying craptons of office computers and upgrading old ones.

"Same rules since the first man picked up the first stick and beat the second man's ass with it."

Every time I see "Gartner" I laugh.

2013. Gartner says PC gaming will die.

Good call Gartner.

If I remember right in 2011 they predicted the death of the PC and it had all time sales. Might have been 2009. Who knows. Hard to keep up with Gartner BS.

Yes, lets cherry pick the times Gartner got it wrong (despite them often getting a lot right). Everyone screws up, harping on their screwups accomplishes nothing.

And you don't get to be the worlds leading company in what you do by screwing up that much, so I have more faith in Gartner than I do most people on the internet...

Gartner may as well be considered an advertising arm of MS. They started predicting the death of PC non stop about when the Xbox arrived. They are sued constantly.

BTW I love the Xbox in the background.

Gartner is a publicly traded company on the NYSE and they most definitely are not a MS advertising firm.

Just because anyone agrees with MS doesn't mean they get money from them...

Do you just keep a folder of bookmarks with which to slander MS with at all times? You seem to have anti-MS material for any topic.

Pretty much. I saw a article not to long ago basically saying the enthusiast build companies were cleaning up. Nvidia is making insane money, the MB/GPU makers are. People just aren't buying the dumb all in ones as much.

I have been around computers and the industry for a long time. When you see one company posting the same BS every few years, promoting one company more than other companies, having hit piece "studies" against their competition and are sued for that? You remember that. I posted the evidence and occurrences. Most people in this field who are older consider Gartner a joke. Maybe you are a young "academic", or maybe you really didn't even know who Gartner is.

I posted facts that show Gartner is laughable. You don't want to debate them. You don't want to challenge them as being accurate (because they are). I see people insult WCCFtech all the time. Go defend WCCFtech, because chances are? They are right more then Gartner.

Anyways have a nice day. Until you want to argue with facts rather than opinion conversing with you is a waste of time.
