[rumor] windows 8.1 update 3 will not happen, M$ wants to focus on windows 9

pixeldensity

Not that long ago we heard that Windows 9 might be delayed to squeeze in Windows 8.1 update 3. Windows 8.1 Update 3 was to be the third and last major update for Windows 8.1 before Microsoft moves on to Windows 9. However, new reports from famous Windows leaker WZOR suggest Windows 8.1 update 3 has been scrapped entirely. Microsoft is going to push ahead with the second update which is coming in the very near future, possibly as early as next week, and then move straight onto Windows 9. The reason? Well Microsoft thinks Windows 8.X is a lost cause, a bit like a Vista 2.0. Instead of investing time and resources into Windows 8.1 update 3, that could be better spent improving Windows 9. This is a move that might anger Windows 8.X users – they’ve paid for the OS and now Microsoft wants to short change them because it hasn’t “sold enough”.

Rumors from WZOR says that windows 8.1 update 3 will not be happening. Instead, M$ will be pushing very hard for windows 9 dev and adoption b/c windows 8 isn't successful in their eyes. I'm not too surprised that M$ is thinking this especially how resistance there was when win8 came out in the beginning.

They could focus on fixing windows 8 more because if they are more focused on windows 9 then we will have to pay for windows 9 upgrade.

Seems logical to me. Windows 8 got such a bad reputation, it is beyond saving. No any update will attract significant amount of users to switch to Win 8 from Vista and Win 7.

I like windows 8.... I thought it was a step in the right direction, exsept when they made it so you went right to the desktop instead of the start menue, and making it hard to find somethings when trying to troubleshoot.

Windows XP share: ~15%

Windows 7 share: ~50%

Share of other Microsoft OSs: ~10%

Share of 8 AND 8.1: ~15%

Unless they ditch the ridiculous Metro UI. They shouldn't be moving "forward" at all. A desktop is not a tablet the Metro UI is not an "experience" it's an annoyance. Just make a start menu and I will upgrade.

Smartphones are simplistic and intuitive. I like the live tiles. I can see notifications without having to open a browser, type in my login info and check. It reminds me of a smartphone. Which is what they were aiming for. Remember the..."OMG, PC is dying. It's definitely in decline". I don't see a problem in Microsoft trying to merge the smartphone experience into PC UI. I expect it. How many people were asking for an Android PC? Then Bluestacks tried to make it happen. If I could put my phone's sim in my PC, it would be perfect. It would be nice if we had the option to use Android instead of "windows phone"(Metro), though.

All-in-all...I guess there are people who are okay with a traditional mobile phone. Technology is scary. Though my dad doesn't have a smartphone and he loves Windows 8.1.

My phone is where I want a phone experience. On my PC I want a desktop experience. Microsofts marketing team should be smarter than that, tablets were a huge fad for the most part. They dominated in sales for awhile now they've gone down to what would seem more relateable to what they should probably be getting. Tablets really aren't too useful as phones can do pretty much the same things all be it, a little slower. Therefore the tablet doesn't really make much sense, the convertible idea however works great for users who want both.

When I come home and watch TV, I'd like to notifications and calls come through the TV. Same with my PC. I wish it were better than, having to take my headset off to answer a call or watch a snapchat. It's like...I don't need a camera, a phone, a tablet, a Vita in my pocket. And it's not Microsoft fully to blame. At least they tried. It's the phone carriers. We need better integration between devices. Windows would be great and also Sony PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, my car etc...if we could dock in. With the notification system and live tiles, Windows 8 was there and ready. We only needed carrier support.

All you need is your phone, pull it out of your pocket. You don't need a TV or PC to do that. It's extremely intrusive in both of those situations. The statistics also show that people do not want that as well with Windows 8 having a small user group compared to Windows 7 and Smart TV's not being very commercially successful. You only need a phone, not a camera, phone, tablet, and or a Vita. Your phone can do all of that in one, therefore you only need a phone.

Furthermore, Windows on any of the consoles is a bad idea. The point of consoles is for it to be simplistic and have a "the user literally doesn't need to do a thing" environment. Adding Windows would effectively just make them cheap PC's and make them completely pointless buys.

I don't think all devices need Windows. Their functionality should translate into other OSes. I want the choice to answer a call/text/snapchat etc on my Samung TV, or Android phone, or Windows PC, or Wii U. Samsung uses there own versions of Google apps. If I'm on my PC and I get a PSN or Live message, I should be able to get that message on my PC or even my phone. I can link most of my networks that give notifications using live tiles, but mobile functionality with PC is not happening. Asus tried it and got a cease and desist. So, apparently Asus didn't read those statistics. If consumers knew what they wanted, we would have everything by now. I know people that still believe they wouldn't use a smartphone. All they would use is the phone and text. I didn't buy phones with front cameras because I never thought I would video chat. Now most have them and I use it. Smartphones are proof that people want integration of functionality. Otherwise, phones wouldn't have cameras, GPS, internet, NFC payments. If you think for a minute, I believe you'll understand what I'm saying. Windows 8 aimed to integrate all of our services and functionality. I don't know if phone carriers or consoles manufacturers haven't thought about this or don't want to invest. I believe if Google were to make Android OS for PC, the functionality I need would be achieved in a short time and I believe this is what pushed M$ to develop Windows 8.

No thanks. AMD Mantle has more games then DX 12 will, if MS keeps it off Win 7 or makes it a 9 exclusive. I will roll Win 7 and sell my GTX 770 and buy a R9 290. Mantle works just as good on Win 7 as 8 and AMD wants to add Linux support. If and when that happens?

MS products will be off my computer permanently. Windows sucks as an OS anyways compared to a Linux install. Their media player is trash. Their moviemaker is trash. Their Internet browser is trash. The ONLY reason many people even use the dumb OS is things like Sony Vegas and games. Other than that it is garbage.

Third party companies are what makes Windows a monopoly. It isn't MS making anything that is quality or even good.

People do know what they want, I own a smartphone, all I actually do use is texting as I find my phone is just that, a phone. There is literally nothing I can see my phone needing to do with apps and the like. You are probably the only person I have ever seen say that they want all of their devices to function like that. Even now only getting Steam notifications I can barely stand how obnoxious getting them is. If I got notifications from everything everywhere I would hate that experience. The functionalities you stated for phones such as cameras, GPS, and internet are essentials to have available at a moments notice. Anything further is kind of unneccesary.
