Preference about size? (14", 15", 17", etc?"). Also, how portable does it need to be?

Asus G750JM - it probably has the best cooling system available in the gaming laptop, but it weighs like 9-10 pounds. Also, it won't come with a SSD by default, but if you're willing to go a little extra budget, you could buy your own $60 SSD and install it yourself (getting to the drives in the G750 series is pretty easy)

Sager NP8258 - It's a 15" laptop, and also comes with a dual fan cooling system which is quite nice. If you want 17", there's the Sager NP8278 which will come with an extra hard drive bay. You can buy Sager laptops from a number of laptop resellers. In the one I linked below, you can choose to add a 120GB SSD for $100 and still be under budget for what you provided. Keep in mind this website doesn't include an OS by default, so you could always buy a key for Windows 8 for like $30 from G2A like in that topic in the Hot Deals subforum.

If being ultraportable isn't terribly important to you, I think those are your best options.

9 pounds could be alright but maybe only 14 to 15 inches is good
