Need Ultrabook with battery Life, 1080p+ screen

d3sl91

Hey All,

My brother is off to college in a month, and I am looking for a laptop for him. Me and several other family members are pooling money to buy this for him as a going away/birthday present. He is paying for school out of pocket and using whatever scholarships he can find, and hopes to not incur any debt if possible, and I'm trying to help him do so!

He will be biking/walking a couple of miles to school every day.

So with a $750 USD Budget (mayybee a bit more):

CPU: i5 or better

RAM: 6GB or better

HDD: Dont care. If it has an SSD, awesome, otherwise we are replacing with an SSD when he gets it.

Battery: Long life, 6+ hours is preferred.

Screen: 1080+ (1600x900 is doiable) 13-15.6". He doesn't care about touchscreen so if it doesn't have it, no big deal.

Weight: Under 5lbs. Under 4 if possible.

Other: Thinner the better, good build quality.

Any ideas will be helpful! We are quite tech saavy, but haven't had much hands on with newer laptops, so any personal experience with units is a plus!

I think a MacBook Air would be perf for him, only a little pricey

How about a Vaio Fit?

Compatible with Windows 95

I'd say have a look at some dell ultrabooks, they have a solid build quality and the performance is always great. I'm even using a dell laptop right now to make this post.

this is a 13" ultrabook, if this doesn't fit his needs there are other ones just click on the ultrabook category.

EDIT: Sorry I forgot to look at the price, silly me. you can still find laptopts below the 800 range if you search a bit

EDIT2: here: http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-14-7437/pd?~ck=mn , it has a FHD screen, touch and good battery life. what more could you want?

EDIT3: the 15" model even has a numberpad if he needs it. same price for starting model: http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-15-7537/pd?~ck=mn

Thanks for all the ideas!

Because he is a student, he got $150 off deal at best buy for a 13" Yoga 2 (i5, 500GB SSHD, 1080P screen, 6+ hrs battery) Pretty thin and light).  It was already on sale for around $829.

We plan on adding a 120GB mSATA SSD or swapping the 500 with a 256GB sata  and adding ram in the future if he needs it.
