Dead laptop... or kind of

Hey guys, I have a really big problem. My trusty laptop died and of course i don't have the money to fix it, sooo I'm asking for help. Here is how it boots: It starts reeaaly slowly, gets to WinXP loading screen and just keeps on loading... forever but again-reeaaly slowly. What can I do to fix it?

see if you can boot into safe mode

 

press f8 right after the mobo splash screen

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Can you boot from a windows disc? Try run hard drive checks and if everything seems fine then try reinstalling XP/your desired OS as it could be some type of corruption but that's just a guess. And that corruption could be due to a degrading hard drive or possibly force shutting down by holding the power button.

 

These are just guesses though. This is just what I would try first.
