Apparently Female Hostages Are Offensive In Games

In the E3 gameplay trailer for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, players have to fight to rescue a hostage trapped inside a house full of armed captures.

The problem(according to Gamespot) is that the hostage shown in the game was a female.

Apparently people are butt hurt over how this could portray women as being helpless and just objects that the players fight over.

I personally think that this idea is absurd and that it really shouldn't matter what gender a hostage is.

people need to realize that no mater what someone does, there will always be someone who is strongly against it

Im pretty sure anyone can be taken hostage by a group of armed villains but you know give them a vagina and it all of a sudden becomes offensive.

i agree to not have them in a competitive game like cs:go since hitboxes matter a lot, but a hostage or even female soldier in a game where hitbox is a big blob anyway it's just stupid.

It is only criticism if you make it criticism. The article isnt directed soley at Rainbow Six Siege, more towards the continuation of the damsel in distress theme. I think we should demand better, its pretty telling that this is how they choose to advertise their game. I think the poll is quite missleading its not just about a woman hostage, pay attention to the clip in question.

But there are real female hostages in real life...... the game is being realistic. I remember the old SOCOM games on PS2 and I think there was a girl hostage in one of them. I'm sure there are male hostages in the game too.... seems more like equality than sexism.

Again the poll is missleading, the question isnt if a woman hostage is okay. Its closer to "is it okay to replace the flag in capture the flag with a crying, helpless woman".
