4790K MASSIVE OC's ON AIR!!!!!!!

So at Computex MSI got 5.498Ghz on air and liquid cooling. Yes this might have been a binned chip but look at it this way, really bad chips will be able to get in the 4.7Ghz range, medium range chips will be able to get 5.0~5.2Ghz and really good ones will most likely be able to get 5.3Ghz+. This is amazing and I will defiantly be getting one, just wish they would have OCd' the Pentium too, lol 

 

People are pointing out that some where using LN2 boxs with fans and rads, also all CPU's WERE binned. But still your gonna get a really good OC on these chips.

Gigabyte got 6.7 or so, i may be wrong on the decimal number but somewhere in the 6Ghz range with LN2

Yeah, I've been viewing a lot of this coverage on the 4790K.

 

I'm also not against the notion that many of these may have been 'not so random' - with good BINs & such, but maybe not.

The hype with these processors has been building up for quite a while, and the pre-reviews, leaks, etc have actually been close to target, which most have said this is a damn solid line of CPUs.

 

As far as this series being better on Air? That, sir, is a fact.

However, you have to keep in mind - the Base Clock of the 4790K is 4Ghz.. Boost is 4.4Ghz. That's going to have an effect on any overclock, of course. So doing a direct comparison with the 4770K kind of skews the main focus here.

Please don't mislead people by those statements, that was on water in the air/water round for the Pro overclocker. The entire rig was inside an insulated box with LN2 flasks around the rads so the air intake temperature was way lower than ambient allowing for core voltages a lot higher than safe for everyday use even with the best liquid cooling custom loop.

Finally it was confirmed that each team got 5 binned chips of which they further binned to get the best one.

But as Linus said, It's only a Number... Would AMD's 8Ghz+ and this 6.4Ghz be comparable and as fast.. One could argue Yes

Maybe with a golden chip...

A normal one won't be 5 GHz IMO, but closer to 4,7-4,8.

I can get my chip 4.7, 4.8 it just doesn't do much but load to desktop, open a stress test and crash, haven't really bothered with it though, might be able to get it stable. So the possibility of getting a good chip that will give me 5ghz doesn't seem like a worthy leap for me. I stay at 4.6 fyi

My mobo sucks, its only pcie2.0 and doesn't support sli (damned AMD). Not to mention the absolute mystery that is the "what graphics card is compatible with my APU in dual graphics mode" question.
