so... do i get to keep it?

Yes but you have to start the install and then cancel it or it may not stick to your account.

Once you start the install you can pause it, hit the X and then remove the files

add it to your favorites would be a good idea also.

Wat? I am confused. Why can't you just download it?

The year is 20XX. Everyone plays Fox at TAS levels of perfection. Because of this, the winner of a match depends solely on port priority. The RPS metagame has evolved to ridiculous levels due to it being the only remaining factor to decide matches.

Only Abate, Axe, and Wobbles can save us.

I don't know if my steam client is different than yours, but I don't have to download anything. Just click on the "add to your library" (or something similar, because mine is in portugues), and you're good to go. Take a look at your library, it should be there.

Edit: Forgot to mention, that once you click on the "add" button, another window appears asking your if you actually want to install the game NOW.

I added this game to my games library, but do I have to download and install it in order to keep it for free? Or can I just download and install it later outside of the 24 hour period

Fweee gwames. :)

Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.

As I get older I get angrier more cynical, meaner. I feel some warning posts coming. I feel a ban coming. I was warned.

This is on the main Steam page.

"To claim your free copy, just visit the store page and click the install button! If you don’t install it, it goes back to regular price tomorrow and you miss out! Offer Ends Thursday at 10am Pacific Time."

It's very possible that Steam has set the requirement of actually downloading the game or it gets removed from your account.

the purpose of this giveaway is to sell DLC, so they are likely limited this to people who commit to installing the game.

There have been other games given away for free but all you had to do was add it to your library by starting the download and then cancelling it

the game stays there.  This may not be the case with Sniper Elite V2.

Some people want the game but don't want to install it yet or don't want to have Steam sapping their bandwidth

the only way I see getting around it is throttling Steam to 16KB/s in the settings menu and hope Steam doesn't care

if you actually finish the download when the 24 free period is up.

I see what you mean and it does make sense based on the quote above.

However I can assure you, that you don't have to install the game.

If it is on you library page (because you added the game), it is bound to your account. Permanently. Forever and ever to the infinite and beyond (excluding free weekend games that appear on your library page)

To prove it (you have to take my word for it), lets see what they said on the last free game:

Note: I just added the game on my account and did NOT installed it,

Red Orchestra 2 is FREE today on Steam!*

It will be free as in, grab it now, pay no money, and it is yours to keep forever – FOR FREE!

To claim your Red Orchestra 2 gift, all you need to do is install it. If you don’t install, it goes back to its regular price and you miss out!

Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad focuses on the Battle of Stalingrad and the surrounding operations, both German and Russian, from July 1942 to February 1943. The game allows the player to experience one of the most brutal battles in all of human history. Delivering unrivalled accuracy and attention to detail, along with gritty, vicious combat in multiplayer and single-player modes the game will feature everything from quick, brutal firefights to more intricate and challenging tactical modes.

See? its just a way to obligate you to play the game... well, in a way. Because you could just unistall the moment you finished the installation.

I wont install this one either, not cuz i dont want to, its because i dont have my pc yet... I do get the free games though :D
