Non-serious question here, but I feel like everyone I've met who does programming has some snack or drink that they always consume while programming almost like clock work. I'm curious to hear what ya'll's are. Mine are the following:

  • Diet Coke if its hot out
  • Black Tea with honey & cream if its cold out

I never snack while working because I can't stand nasty keyboards. I get a crumb on my machine and I spent forty five minutes with compressed air and wipes cleaning everything. lol

Bugs. A wide selection of bugs.

On bad days also magic smoke paired with fried mosfets.

The Declaration of Independence, once the charter of democracy, begins by saying that certain things are self-evident. If we were to trace the history of the American mind from Thomas Jefferson to William James, we should find that fewer and fewer things were self-evident, until at last hardly anything is self-evident. (G. K. Chesterton - Aug. 14 1926 (The Illustrated London News))

Right? I CANNOT have a dirty desk or keyboard, idk how people just deal with it. lol My MacBook Pro even has a screen protector, case (hard cover plastic) and port dust plugs in a matching pink. I hate messy.

Water, coffee, tea. Black coffee and the type of tea varies heavily, but I don't add anything to it. Things that don't trigger a burst of insulin because doing that all day is how you get the diabetes.

Runs in my family too, hence the Diet Coke (idk if it actually really helps with that), though I should probs drop the teaspoon of honey in my tea.

On metabolic health disadvantage scale, soda is like a 20, diet soda is like a 2 and water would be a baseline 0. I'd put it in the same ballpark with stuff like coffee and tea, but those have some nutritional/health benefit but nothing significant. Probably a -1 on this same scale.

Although drinking diet coke all day is going to affect dental health. There are a few people at work who do this and they're obviously not metabolically/physically healthy (big beer guts or obesity), but far better off drinking diet than regular soda.

Noting that this video is from the perspective of someone who already eats well and exercises. Results may vary for the latter.

So I used to struggle a lot with my weight, but the following adjustments fixed it right up for me.

  1. Removal of sugar.
  2. Removal of simple/processed carbohydrates (I still have carbs like pasta, they're just whole wheat, never white or processed).
  3. Regular gym routine of about an hour to two.

Now I'm not perfect, but the numbers both in my weight and the blood work are all moving in the right direction quite quickly. Though do keep in mind this is my experience, your mileage may vary. Also perhaps I should create another thread about this but honestly screw the whole "nerds don't go to the gym" stereotype or whatever, fell for that in high school. I was never taught just how wonderful the gym can be not just for physical health, but as an emotional release and as a focus enhancer for when I am working. If I ever have kids that'll be a huge lesson I harp on them.

Not uncommon, a lot of the VERY important things I know now were things I had to figure out through my own research within the last couple years, especially in regard to insulin control. Something that isn't discussed outside of diabetes, even with the significant amount of people who can be considered pre-diabetic or at least chronically insulin resistant (just by looking at their last of muscular and excessive body fat, especially a huge gut). My primary objective of strength training over the last few years for health and practicality reasons.

I've come to really simplify diet and exercise down to insulin regulation. Reduce fat to reduce insulin resistance, increase muscle to increase insulin sensitivity. Dietary wise, reduce spikes in insulin my fasting, bias more towards proteins and fats than carbs, supplement micronutrients when necessary (almost always is in today's world).

I do have the privilege of having good genetics and a proclivity towards bitter tastes, which makes me actually enjoy things like black coffee and tea generally more than sweet stuff. Being a year round soccer/lacrosse player throughout my entire childhood definitely helped too. When I was active duty in the Navy, the guys this stereotype actually applied to would struggle to maintain the base fitness standards while actually working out, while I had to do literally nothing except the exam every 6 months and would destroy it.

Probably one of the best things a parent can do for their kids in today's world is get them involved in some sort of physical sport. Helps build stronger bones and muscles, teamwork, winning and losing in a healthy way, understanding their limits, etc.

I always have water and Dextrosol for concentration (not sure if it's sold outside sweden but it's around 89% Dextros).
During the summer I also like to have carbonated juice (basicly just adding carbonated water to a syrup) and in the winter earl grey.

Don't misstake industrial/warehouse automation for AI automation. You could automate manufacturing in the 1960s.

English is not my native launguage so sometimes I might not make total sense.

Luckily most of my clients are men who love to bust balls all day so I can get away with saying "I could open a Subway with your keyboard" or "you owe me a nail appointment after touching that thing" without getting into trouble as long as its expressed in a more playful gesture.

Lucky your clients are somewhat self aware and find humour in that!

The worst part was that it wasn’t even a dig on someone specific. It was just a general note on our sign along the lines of “please wipe down devices prior to return as filthy devices may not be accepted”.

Evidently someone saw that, got offended and then complained.

Most likely someone who does use their rented $2000 laptop as their dinner plate and DNA swab.

Unsweetened Iced Cappucinno or Black

that's all I need

And no, I don't drink it while it hovers on top of my keyboard, not even on top of my table.

I pull myself some tens of centimeters back before consuming

And I wipe my finger dry n clean before I return it to keyboard and/or mouse.

I'm not a savage y'see 😛

Not a programer.

But mine are regular high quality H2O. Some type of Sparkling or Seltzer water. Liquid Death Tea (Only at lunch during the work day). When it's cold and shitty outside some kind of non caffeinated Hot Tea.

If it's been a really rough day might have a shot of DR. McGillicuddy's Root beer flavored

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

At home, I drink whatever soda is in the fridge. At the office, however, I get sparkling water from the water cooler. No one else at the office seems to drink soda, so I felt like I would stand out if I did so. I avoid the coffee as it seems to have the opposite effect for me

Not a programmer but water.

I distill well water using a school chemistry set, simple and ez. Glass bottle with cork and a silicone sleeve on top to prevent shattering, I can sterilise it without issues.

No food near the computer. I don't eat at work either. I could, but there's not enough space in my backpack for jars, plates and cutlery lol
