The Utterly Imbalanced CaseLabs TX10-D build(s)!

VSG

I get my cables today I think, they just got on a plane in Los Angeles, and I live in Oregon so I think they'll show up today.

I'm so excited!

Also, I agree the sleeving from icemodz is soooo nice looking in person.  Quality is great!

Finally got JJ to say in writing that warranty on the M6F is tied to the board and not the "thermal armour". So guess who just ordered a few more cans of spray paint?

Also, what do you guys think about this:

Thinking about giving this a whirl but very few fittings work with this technique, and even then it is not the most secure.

This looks cool but I don't know if I'd trust it. I'm also not a huge fan of acrylic though...

It does look really good. It's worth a try if you feel confident doing it.

Just be really careful on the leak test make sure that shakes and higher pump speeds or whatever don't blow the fittings.

Sketchy tubing work... Tapping tubes looks like disaster everywhere...

To build a computer you must become a plumber!

Might be a good place to look for stuff though. Plumbing supplies!

Maybe also belt supplies.

Do you have any pictures of what's together so far?  I like pictures.

Next couple of weeks is mostly waiting for a lot more parts to arrive, followed by the radiator tests. Once I am done decided RAM/motherboard (pretty much done already), I will order the custom FrozenQ reservoirs as well. I got an EK PE480 today for review/use in the build if I desire so there will now be 4 480s and 2 560s going into the hotbox.

The most "action" coming anytime soon is for Side 2- the M6F and corresponding EK blocks will be getting a makeover real soon.

  • 3 weeks later...

Yes, this thing is still alive. Work and reviews are taking a lot of time though. In case you guys missed it, here's a review of the MCP50X: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/225724-my-review-of-the-swiftech-mcp50x-pump/

Also look what just showed up:

78XkkfKl.jpg

ewQtaxVl.jpg

U0zriH7l.jpg

Technically these for the quad radiator comparison, but I may well end up using some of these depending on how much air they push out compared to my other gazillion fans in here. I got an extech thermo-anemometer for real cheap off an estate sale on eBay so that will help a lot!

I also got the pump for Side 2 all ready to go:

ONvpUqHl.jpg

7MPhfxhl.jpg

Unfortunately this particular top is pretty mediocre at best performance wise. So I will consider another if it turns out to be a deal breaker. So after that review, I have decided on 2x MCP50X for the Side 1 GPU loop, MCP35X2 for the Side 1 CPU loop and this D5 for Side 2.

Bro, those fans might add up in cost to be more than a significant chunk of my system

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

I wouldn't be surprised, I didn't pay for these but FrozenCPU says those fans would cost $1400 shipped to me

Holy crap...

Dats a lot of fans, bro

48!

These came in an actual crate all the way from Germany, and the USPS guy gave me a dirty look when delivering it lol. I would have been ok with just 2-4 sets and then undervolting/PWM controlling them for push/push-pull on the quad rads but they sent me all of these so I am not complaining!

You're lucky >.> You could build wind turbine with all of the fans... Need something to power your PC :P

Did you miss the ridiculous amount of PSUs I had? Of course now I "only" have the 1300G2 and 750G2 for this build. Something massive is coming in soon though (hopefully). Also- RVE coming in today along with 3 more quad rads for the big review. So I will now have 2 paperweights instead of 1 while waiting for the RAM to arrive.

Damn! I don't know what those cost in your country, but in the netherlands you have 960 bux worth of fans right there.. More than my entire pc

My Build log of the Satan's Cave PC Desk Project is starting to get in action! Come check it out if you feel like it  :)

$1400 as mentioned above, but again I didn't pay for these and didn't really ask for all of these either. These will be put to good use on the radiator testing though so I am grateful to them for providing all these.

In other news, UPS man just dropped off 2 big packages- 1 from Amazon (Asus RVE) and another from XSPC (3 big rads). Pics soon.. Have to say I am still not a big fan of the RVE looks but that's going to be taken care of soon.

It's not like it cost them anywhere close to that though. On the customs invoice, the value was waaaay lower. I won't say how much since I don't know if that's true or just a nominal value they put in case customs didn't understand what test/review samples were.

I can't say for sure what both the cards were drawing since they were shutting down the system with the single PSU I had! The case is anodized black, so it really needs a powder coat. There is no one around who is willing to do this whole case for what I think is reasonable so at this point it will remain black. I will keep options open of course!

While I prep up the room and see how the lighting is for better pictures, may I offer people the chance to view some GPU porn?

i still dont get when ek always have a shorter waterblock than the pcb. is it just extra components that dont require cooling in the back?

Their main defense is aesthetics- they aren't a big fan of a plexi extension piece over the PCB. There's another challenge of supporting the plexi extension- acetal is stronger in general. Finally, sometimes PCB components that aren't actively cooled by water may starve for air under a block and the heat can affect things- case in point being the very cards you quoted. The memory VRMs aren't covered by the block and the Swiftech Classified HC block resulted in memory OC issues compared to if you have active airflow over the card with the EK block on.

RVE got here yesterday:

This contraption should be fun to work with, but at this point I can't imagine the cable provided to be long enough for the TX10.

Myx1Pxnl.jpg

Oh well, at least it isn't DOA.

8FJHKEdl.jpg

Inside are 2 boxes as usual with the Asus boards, one for accessories and the other for the board (+ OC panel). First up, accessory box:

Bottom left:

BjYgSVFl.jpg

Manual, cable stickers, case badge, driver disk, I/O shield, LN2 backplate, and OC panel connector cable. I wish that OC panel cable was longer, and the I/O shield was black. I'll probably coat it black if it bothers me too much.

Bottom right:

hWSxcXvl.jpg

2 way, long 2 way flexible SLI bridges and 3-way, 4-way rigid SLI bridges. I have never understood why only SLI bridges are provided with motherboards- how are GPU manufacturers supposed to understand the spacing for crossfire configurations when bundling CFX bridges?

Top left:

B9dz2npl.jpg

WiFi antenna, Q-connectors, thermal probes, and 10 SATA data cables.

Top right:

FOWT1hTl.jpg

That's the 5.25" bay adapter for the OC panel. Enough of this, right on to the board now:

That's one shiny SupremeFX chip! My Fii0 e17 is all I really use though.

Molex for supplemental PCI-E power

Q1aCnPNl.jpg

8 phase VRM. Kinda glad they went with "it's not the number, but the quality" here.

vGURT4hl.jpg

Those PCI-E lane toggle switches are the sole reason I went with this board instead of something like the -WS, still not a big fan of the looks on this board. Finally, a look at the "OC socket":

wiNSTxol.jpg

So far people have been able to get the uncore frequencies above 4 GHz only on these sockets so something must be working right here. Time will tell. Oh well, now I have 2 paperweights instead of the single CPU paperweight, now waiting on the RAM to arrive.
