What would be a good upgrade from a Ryzen 9 3900X?

I don't want to spend too much but what would be a good CPU to upgrade to that supports DDR5 and will give me better performance in Gaming and video editing?

Do you need DDR5, on your current platform you can stick with your current RAM and should be able to keep your motherboard too if its good enough and upgrade to 5000 series at a much lower cost

System specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D [-30 PBO all core]

GPU: Sapphire AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT NITRO+ [1050mV, 2.8GHz core, 2.6Ghz mem]

Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB 32GB 6000MHz CL32 DDR5

Storage: 2TB SN850X, 1TB SN850 w/ heatsink, 500GB P5 Plus (OS Storage)

Case: 5000D AIRFLOW

Cooler: Thermalright Frost Commander 140

PSU: Corsair RM850e

I don't necessarily need DDR5 but from what I have looked at already I would see benefits upgrading to DDR5 when it comes to Rendering the videos I am editing, I'm looking to get a new Motherboard anyway as the one I have doesn't have WiFi onboard and that's something I'm looking for (I snapped the antennas off my WiFi Card twice)

If you want DDR5 support you're replacing your motherboard and RAM too. Probably better to stick to AM4 CPUs.

At the moment I'm just looking at options but for the CPU alone I'd be looking at no more then £500 but wanting it to cost as little as possible. I don't mind if it's Intel or AMD Either just whatever will get be the best performance. Preferable it will cost closer to £300 but I know that's unrealistic.

300 is doable, for just the CPU that is? Do you need a lot of I/O on the motherboard? How much RAM?

Yeah that's for just the CPU and the motherboard doesn't need too much I/O just needs WiFi onboard. I will be getting 32GB of RAM to start with, eventually upgrading to 64GB

You can add PCIe or USB WiFi, and upgrade the CPU to a Ryzen 5000 series.  That would be the cost effective option.

I know, I currently have a PCIe card for WiFi but as I said above I keep knocking the PC when moving it and have snapped the antenna off 2 different cards

DDR5 works MUCH better in dual channel, i.e. 2 sticks, it can be very unstable with 4 sticks and will run slower regardless. How much would you be willing to spend on RAM, it might be cheaper than you think

Wifi enabled motherboards also come with those rear antennae though

Also where are you based so i can switch over PCPartPicker List for accurate pricing

I've seen some Corsair Vengence 7000MHz for around £140 for 32GB (2x16GB) so something around that, I want the best I can get to future-proof for a while. I didn't know it was unstable with 4 sticks, that's good to know!

Its gotten better with recent BIOS revisions but DDR5s ideal run state is 2 sticks in dual channel

As mentioned, motherboards with WiFi built in have the same antenna, so you need to figure out what you are doing wrong when moving the computer.

I know that CPUs have come on quite a bit but how much of an upgrade would the Ryzen 7 7700X be over my current CPU

Fair enough, bit stupid of me to assume it doesn't have antenna. I will consider this, thank you!

Oh its nuts, I'm looking at the 79000xtx nitro+ £1029 here and $1059 in the US

Ill be paying the equivalent of $1300 for the same product people in the US are getting for $1060

Going the other way around (cus id say you know £'s better)

Id pay £1029, the US would pay £840
