What would be a good upgrade from a Ryzen 9 3900X?

Oh its nuts, I'm looking at the 79000xtx nitro+ £1029 here and $1059 in the US

Ill be paying the equivalent of $1300 for the same product people in the US are getting for $1060

Going the other way around (cus id say you know £'s better)

Id pay £1029, the US would pay £840

I don't get how they can get away with it, it must be something to do with taxes otherwise I cannot understand how the pricing works

It's crazy it costs the same price with £1 being $1.20

Also just an FYI, because of how the 7900X works with 2 CCDs working in parallel, its great for heavily multithreaded productivity loads, but its on par or slightly worse than the 7700X in gaming, even though it has more cores, more cache and is clocked higher.

Oh million dollar question, whats the main use case? Is it mainly gaming or mainly productivity?

Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB 32GB 6000MHz CL32 DDR5

Storage: 2TB SN850X, 1TB SN850 w/ heatsink, 500GB P5 Plus (OS Storage)

That really is a difficult question! When the new F1 games and new GTA come out then I have to say it would be a lot of gaming but for now it's more editing

F1 games shold be easy enough to run, likewise with GTA, either 7900X or 7700X will be more than capable, the main decision then is if you want to spend that extra hundred quid for better productivity performance or if the 7700X will be adequate, sadly theres no in between this generation of CPUs

I think I will have to look a bit more into the specific differences between them in different workloads and see if it is worth the price tag

The issue is mainly with the Price to performance of each, as much as they are fairly equal in gaming having the extra horsepower for the multithreaded workflows would be very nice to have. It's all coming down to the price of each to be honest

Also, just to update you, current pricing for both in UK as i never gave you the 7700X in UK pricing, might help your decision?

only £60 of difference

For only £60 I might just go for the Ryzen 9, seems silly not to if its such a small difference in comparison

I will be getting 32GB of RAM to start with, eventually upgrading to 64GB

Hopefully by replacing the kit entirely as adding more DIMM's is never smart, even more so with DDR5. (unless of course you're willing to lower speeds manually)

A 7700X would probably only give you a 10% uplift in all core, a 5950x would likely give you a 25-30% uplift with no need to swap mobo or RAM

Okay, that gives me something new to think about! I will have a look thank you! I assumed the newest gen would give me much better performance

Ryzen 7000, especially x3D, is significantly faster in gaming than any Ryzen 3000 part.
