What motherboard for Ryzen 9 5900x

I think the Radeon Saphire 7900 XT is on sale for only 522 on amazon

is it? if that's the case that's great,

that's fine, even 1440p already puts higher emphasis slightly on GPU rather than CPU,

@Somerandomtechyboi is right about seeing an AM5 build, though with AM5 build you'd be looking at something like sub 500$ or even less budget for GPU

7900 XT is quite good GPU, it's AMD so it doesn't have Nvidia features and RT performance, but it's good bang for the buck if you aren't fixated on Nvidia:

it's not bad, it's quite fast, but not trying to disappoint you or anything, there's possible cheaper alternatives that can deliver same performance in gaming,

but that's not taking discounts into consideration of course

oh yeah, it's only slightly slower than 5800x3D, but if you don't want to go through hassle obtaining it, 5900x is completely fine, it's like Lamborghini vs Bugatti, you're fast either way

oh right, @moochboy_736 what resolution, 1080p? 1440p? 4K?

you do realise theres a 4070 ti super in that list

just have to be smart with component choices, diff is around 100$ due to the cpu itself and ddr5 compared to the 5900x assuming you buy a new b550 (which you should never do) and a 50$ ddr4 32gb kit, but the 7800x3d will obliterate the 5900x in gaming and if you want a 7900 instead thatll also obliterate the 5900x in both gaming and multicore workloads, and all of this whilst being more power efficient too and offering an upgrade path for future cpus on the same mobo and the same kit of ram

I mean you could explain to this guy why getting a 5% faster GPU while paying 200 extra $ for it while stripping down quality of other components is a good idea, I'm going to bed

I think my lists are decent, sure there's second hand options probably too, but not everyone's comfortable with that

microcenter 7800x3d bundle

470$ whilst including the cpu mobo and rams, it basically cost equalizes to the 5900x now

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/c3xPXy

heres the comparison for the 5900x

and thats not even mentioning the 7700 bundle they offer which is 370$, outright cheaper than the 5900x and still obliterates it in games whilst being on a platform with an upgrade path

its about value for money here

if you dont need a powerhouse then get that 7700 bundle which is straight up cheaper than the 5900x considering the mobo and ram cost, you are spending more for less with that 5900x but if you wanna go ahead with it anyways then your choice

just dont start regretting it a few years down the line when you have to swap the entire mobo cpu ram combo instead of just dropping in a new cpu if you had bought the 7700 bundle

do as you wish but think over it more carefully so you dont start having buyers remorse after awhile

i mean i was stupid enough to pay over 100$ on a garbage lga 775 system as my first pc and the board wasnt even an oc board like the giga ep45 just some shit g41

I just bought the Ryzen 9 5900x for the PC I want to build. I want to put in 2-16GB of RAM and a Kingston NV2 2TB M.2 2280 NVMe Internal SSD. There is so many motherboards I don't know what to get. preferably around the price of $180-$200. The cooler I am most likely gonna buy is Noctua NH-U9S 92mm.

For more info, the GPU I want to put in is a 4070.

idk if comparing that to this is the best comparison..

5900x is almost as good as 5800x3D, except it has less cache, it's also not that much slower than 7700x either:

am5 still has an upgrade path so all you have to do is drop in a new cpu and maybe tune the rams if the cpu needs faster ram

~450$ worth of am4 hardware has to be thrown out if you wanna do any cpu upgrades in the future (said hardware would have depreciated alot in a few years so resell value will be meh) whilst am5 you throw the cpu out and drop a new one in and the 7700 non x is at 270$ atm not to mention that microcenter bundle, and since its newer it should still retain a decent amount of its value in a few years so resell value will be better not to mention theres less parts to resell which can take awhile depending on how you price em

still makes absolutely no sense when a 7700x combo is straight up cheaper and you can drop in a new cpu in the future if you wanna upgrade the cpu rather than throwing the board and rams out aswell

am5 is cheaper and offers an upgrade path being able to keep the rams + mobo whilst am4 is more expensive and is a dead platform with no upgrade path, the option youd wanna take is clear just from a price standpoint alone

yeah but you're exceeding budget quite greatly with this,

which is why AM4 is actually decent here even if CPU isn't the greatest pick of the bunch, not to mention once again, that going AM5 would mean you'd need to probably use the cheapest SSD possible, which isn't terrible but it's not anything great either

I personally think my build isn't terrible, it's got 3600Mhz 16CL RAM, Acer Pretador SSD, RMe PSU, good quality MB, 7900 XT and even though lot of budget is used there's 100ish $ left for case,

am5 still has an upgrade path so all you have to do is drop in a new cpu and maybe tune the rams if the cpu needs faster ram

right but AM4 isn't slow if you go high-end, and it can last long, but sure, let's see what AM5 build can be built out of 1500$ budget,

Alright, but I still don't like the RAM here, I guess you could use all budget to fix that, I guess my problem was that it gives you similar performance in the end anyways, even if AM5 is slightly faster..
