What motherboard for Ryzen 9 5900x

I just bought the Ryzen 9 5900x for the PC I want to build. I want to put in 2-16GB of RAM and a Kingston NV2 2TB M.2 2280 NVMe Internal SSD. There is so many motherboards I don't know what to get. preferably around the price of $180-$200. The cooler I am most likely gonna buy is Noctua NH-U9S 92mm.

For more info, the GPU I want to put in is a 4070.

A 5900X is only compatiable with DDR4 ram, so the DDR5 ram you've selected won't work. Look for a 2x8GB kit of 3200Mhz CL16 RAM.

As for the motherboard, you probably just want a B550 board. But it depends on your use case and on what features you need the board to have? (Typically spending more on motherboards only gets you more features, not more performance. If you don't need more features, don't pay more. Overclocking is the exception to this rule.)

Kingston NV2 should be avoided as the components of the drive are a lucky dip.

Common build advice: 1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticably improve performance past 240mm.

yeah B550, for a hot 5900x maybe something with beefy VRM coolers, but I could easily find like a 120$ B550 MB for that task, if not many features are required

are you planning the whole build or do you have some parts? because there's a place for whole build lists, we could even do it here

you're probably only building like PC, you don't need any peripherals or monitors right?

Yeah, just the PC I have a monitor in mind.

I'm not to concerned about the budget just not over 1,700 I already bought the CPU for 300 bc it was half off

my preferred parts I would like in it would be

GPU: 4070

SSD: 2 TB

RAM: 2/16 GB (32 total)

CPU cooler my uncle recommended is the Noctua NH-U9S. But that was for the originally planed ryzen 5 5600x but I decided to go big or go home

Case: I have in mind the NZXT H6 Flow CC-H61FB-01 Compact Dual-Chamber Mid-Tower Airflow Case (Black)

Yea, so I'm hoping to get it as low as possible like around 1500 with the included 300 already spent so like 1200, 1300 for the rest

Oh and the GPU I don't want to exceed 600 like 550 was the price for the current GPU I'm looking at

there's actually space for even faster GPU for your build, if you care about that, how much are you set on Nvidia, and what's your use case is it just gaming or will you like use some other software like 3D modelling or something?

It would be mainly gaming. In terms of faster GPU what would you be looking at for it? I'm still thinking about what case to get preferably NZXT

  • The CPU cooler is big and it's Air Cooler but despite it's price it's actually quite good at cooling 5900x
  • The NZXT case is about same price as the Case in my builds, so I can check if the parts (Cooler, GPU) fit in it
  • The SSD is quite good, it has DRAM cache
  • Each build uses different PSU but enough quality and power for the corresponding GPU
  • For Nvidia you can get 4070 Ti Super, but it exceeds budget at approx 1330$ (30-40$)
  • 7900 XT is fastest if you don't need huge emphasis on RayTracing or any Nvidia features, AMD cards can do RayTracing but they're slightly worse at it than Nvidia
  • Ask as many more questions as you possibly need.

Also the CPU price is set to  0 so the cap is based off 1300$ max

already bought the CPU for 300 bc it was half off

just return since this thing will get annihilated by a 7800x3d and 7900 and get some higher expectations for 1700$

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/b2QZdH

7800x3d + 4070ti super + 32gb 6000c30

will completely blow the 5900x away in gaming so yeah return while you still can

yeah but won't AM5 bring expense up to lower tier GPUs and overall components?

oh right, @moochboy_736 what resolution, 1080p? 1440p? 4K?

I think the Radeon Saphire 7900 XT is on sale for only 522 on amazon
