64gb ram and i7 7700

I got one of those Dell Optiplex SFF 5050 on Facebook marketplace for a very good price but it only came with 8gb of ram.

I have 4x 16gb sticks of ram lying around, 2 Gskill and 2 Kingston. Is this overkill for this processor? Will I run into problems due to different manufacturers?

Any input is welcome thanks

The RAM will all run at the slowest stick, but shouldn't be any real issues.

Overkill is determined by the workload, not the processor.  Do you need or use anywhere near 64GB?

Why not just try it and see?

They are all at 3200mhz. I think the i7 7700 max is 2400mhz.

I do not even need 16gb, the only reason I am doing this is because I just have 64gb of DDR4 memory on hand and want to put it to good use rather than having it sit around doing nothing.

Well it'll still be doing nothing.  Just stored better 👍

You might hit a wall at 32gb, a lot of those office machines didn't go above that and some will refuse to boot if either it's the wrong RAM or if it detects too much RAM.

Well I put in all 4 sticks in there and now I have 64GB of ram lol..

The system feels slightly snappier.. now for the gazillion tabs test... hehe 😁
