No why would it? Storage drives in general are the last thing you need to worry about in terms of cooling. As long as the m.2 has its thermal pad on than your good to go.

Perhaps some bleeding edge PCIe 5.0 m.2 SSDs will thermal throttle a little less often if they have a heat spreader, but that's about it. Reading game files won't get close to maxing out the bandwidth of one, causing it to notably heat anyway.

Usually they would come preinstalled on the motherboard or m.2

i mean even l if it came with a pad (i don't think so honestly) there's no "heatsink" so it would be mostly useless...

 

either way i guess some early nvmes ran hot ,that's how you get those "nvmes need heat spreader" internet myths... people will tell that tale in 20 years still...
