First PC Upgrade Since 2017

Looking at the asus website, it doesn't look like your MB will support 5000 series CPUs. So might want to grab a kit like this:

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 3.4 GHz 8-Core Processor  (£268.99 @ Amazon UK)
Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS WIFI II Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard  (£115.98 @ Novatech)
Video Card: MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Ventus 2X 12G GeForce RTX 3060 12GB 12 GB Video Card  (£278.99 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £663.96
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

All your other parts look fine to go with the above core upgrade. And if you are only targeting 1080p, I'm not sure it makes sense to spend more on a beefier GPU.

Making my return to these forums after 9 years (lol) in hopes of getting some help pulling together my next build...

So for context, below are my current specs:

CPU - Ryzen 7 1700x

Cooler - Arctic Liquid Freezer 240

GPU - GTX 1070 8GB

MOBO - ASUS STRIX B350-F

RAM - 16GB Corsair Vengance DDR4 3200MHz

STORAGE - 1TB m.2, 2tb HHD, few other random SSDs for games

Budget (including currency): £~800 GBP - flexible & I don't mind buying used!

Country: United Kingdom

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming - at the moment mostly The Finals and CS2

Other details:

- No periphrials needed, just CPU (and motherboard if needed, i've heard mixed opinions about sticking with AM4) and GPU

- Aiming to play @ 1080p 144hz

Help me out!

I had a good experience on my gigabyte ab350m motherboard upgrading to a Ryzen 5 5600. I'd recommend sticking with your motherboard, updating the bios to support Ryzen 5000, and going with a 5600, 5700x, or 5800x3d.

Funnily enough I was just about to update the post with the fact that i'm leaning towards the 5800X3D, I just updated my BIOS yesterday is that all it calls for?

In terms of GPU I was leaning towards a 3070, what are you running?

Cheers for the reply!

I was leaning towards a 3070, would my current 650w CoolerMaster PSU be okay?

R7 5700X is pretty good bang for buck and a PBO overclock can help get a bit more performance. Then you have the rest of the budget to spend on some more RAM and a pretty good new GPU.

Gaming With a 4:3 CRT

System specs below

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X with a Noctua NH-U9S cooler
Motherboard: Gigabyte B450 Aorus M (Because it was cheap)

GPU: EVGA GTX 980 Ti SC Blower Card
HDD: 7200RPM TOSHIBA DT01ACA100 1TB, External HDD: 5400RPM 2TB WD My Passport
SSD: 1tb Samsung 970 evo m.2 nvme
PSU: Corsair CX650M
Displays: ViewSonic VA2012WB LCD 1680x1050p @ 75Hz
