GTA 6 is already running on a pc where the trailer was created, that too in 4k resolution

then why its being only released on ps5, atleast they could release the pc one after like 3 months

bruh the reason it wont initially release to pc's isnt that computers arent fast enough to run it

rockstar just stands to make a lot of money from sony and microsoft if they initially release it only to consoles

Take2 will only release GTA 6 on PC once Sony and Microsoft have been milked of their console exclusive licenses. GTA 5 was two or three years late compared to console release because of that. Will be the same here. If Take2 can make extra free few tens if not hundreds of millions from not working, why wouldn't they.

Of course GTA 6 runs on PC. They're not using consoles to develop the game...

Trust me, you don't want their internal PC version yet!

They get more money by making it console exclusive for a while.

That too.  For all we know that trailer was running at 1fps, with everything that happens pre-computed rather than the AI running.

This is also the other point, PC takes a lot more time testing and optimising.  If all PC ports got an extra year over the console releases, we'd have a lot less buggy launches.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)

Assuming of course, that it's "ported" at all. That word is a little nebulous, more realistically, it should be "optimized" rather than ported as it's the same architecture on console as on PC - especially where xbox is concerned, as it's using a (probably modified, but similar nonetheless) DirectX and Windows as a platform.

As I understand it the consoles still use a deeper "to the metal" API, when trying to get the most out of them.  So its still technically a port as pretty much everything about how the engine works is entirely different, at least for AAA developers who want all the performance they can get.

This is especially so given on PC the memory management is a lot more complex due to split-memory between the GPU and CPU, even if you have an APU/SoC.  They may be based on the same core architectures but how you actually use them is completely different, unless you use DirectX12 and take a huge performance hit from not optimising your game for the consoles strengths and weaknesses.  A good path for indies, but not something trying to push the bar like GTA.

Yeah because you can distiguish between native 4K and 1440p in a compressed video.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Pretty sure Digital Foundry did and said it was indeed 1440p, which is all moot when it comes to a trailer years before launch anyway as it can't possibly be indicative of the final product.

Final performance optimisations happen very late in development, thus how we ended up with the Watch Dogs debacle.  Early trailers can never be trusted, they are just an indication of what the developer is aiming for, not what is actually achievable.

In some cases a game is made to look LESS realistic in the final build for legibility, as realism can actually make playing the game harder.  For example a lot of games have places at night with no lighting, they have to make them artificially light as navigating the world with only a flashlight would be no fun at all, unless the game is specifically tailored to be played that way.

ya'll acting like running a game is some voodoo magic lol

that's not why games suck and are unoptimized nowadays.  you can get any scene running in a day or so once you have the assets, assuming you have a game engine too.

nah, the reason games are unoptimized nowadays is more like a FOMO carrot on stick marketing strat than anything, and can you blame devs if it works so well? i certainly cant, good on them as long people fall for it and make threads like this keep going hard with these predatory tactics, imo!

also no working mirrors because "my cpu cycles!" nah, man, that's not what's happening.  🙂

ps: dont drink the DF cool-aid, they're all just part of these marketing schemes with their tailored "analysis" and "testing".

pss: if you think im wrong, you should look into how easily many of these limitations can be rectified by some simple mods (like removing crc checks to reduce microstuttering and whatnot)

DF *never* tests this stuff (hence they're useless)
