What if they added the current topic to WAN bar

jthoward

Just watching the WAN show and thinking about how it might be nice to have the current topic shown on the bottom bar somehow (maybe instead of the twitter handles). Just something like "Bobby Kotick leaves Activision" or "Merch Messages"

Problem with that is that they don't even bother doing those timestamps themselves and if you watch it live, timestamps are of no use to you. They could improve the professionalism of the WAN show by a whole lot in general, but always refuse to.

And now a word from our sponsor: 💩

Doesn’t exist on Floatplane.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Not a bad idea. Although it will be hard for Dan to do live as especially Linus, but all of them to some degree, have a tendency to jump off the rails, do a victory lap in anecdote town and jump on a different set of rails within 10 minutes

mITX is awesome! I regret nothing (apart from when picking parts or have to do maintainance *cough*cough*)

This is an instance of "don't let perfect be the enemy of good"

We don't need to Dan to perfectly summarize the current topic or sentence at like a 1 sec polling rate. As long as it's reasonably accurate +/- several minutes, it's way better than literally nothing.

It's ridiculous to rely on a non-employee timestamps guy.

God forbid Dan- the WAN Show producer (technician?)- makes a better quality WAN show at the expense of replying to insignificantly fewer merch message.

Given his current tasks can be overwhelming on busy nights, in just don't think it's a particularly good idea to add to the list. And you can like or dislike the merch messages, but they are a part of the current format of the show.

That said, I agree in relation to the timestamp guy, but what are they going to do? Make more people work at that time or in the weekend?

This isn't a matter of liking or disliking merch messages.

Dan already receives more merch messages than he can reply to.

So practically speaking if he can only reply to like 70 out hundreds of messages, then there's no practical difference if he can only reply to 20, 30, 40 out of hundreds of messages. The benefit of merch message was to make sure the audience receives SOMETHING if their message isn't acknowledged.

Still, I doubt it's possible to make good timestamps on the fly, especially with the current format. It's a bit too chaotic where you only know the content after it's done, and then you have to focus on the writing that last stamp instead of paying attention to what comes next.

I don't think it's that easy, that's all I'm saying
