Halp! Nintendo switch to displayport?

uno99

I'm looking to connect my NSwitch to a PC monitor. Only have a DP free as the HDMI is taken up by a chromecast.

after a bit of searching the only one I can find is sold out and was advertised in the UK on a clothing brand store...
https://www.shein.co.uk/8K60Hz-DisplayPort-Switch-Docking-Station,-Mini-Portable-Switch-Dock-for-TV-with-100W-PD-Charging,-4K144Hz-DP-&-USB-2.0-Port,-Replacement-Foldable-Charging-Dock-for--Switch-p-23404631-cat-3681.html

Can anyone help? It's for my sons bedroom.
Another solution is being able to use the switch for youtube and netflix etc but that doesn't seem easy to do.

So, if i'm understanding you correctly, your looking to connect a docked nintendo switch to a DP monitor? If yes, you just need to buy a HDMI to DP cable.

Or are you looking to connect an undocked switch to a DP monitor?

Common build advice: 1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticably improve performance past 240mm.

So I would need to buy a dock (3rd party is OK?) and an adapter cable?

I heard the HDMI to DP cables are single-direction and don't work. I'd have to get an expensive active cable?

If so I'm probably better off just buying him a TV.

For cables, have a look at this topic: https://linustechtips.com/topic/729232-guide-to-display-cables-adapters-v2/?output=HDMI&input=DP

You need an active cable, since HDMI and DP are different protocols, so you need something to actively translate between them. Single direction simply means the cable can to HDMI to DP, but not the other way around (which you wouldn't need anyway?).

Ok thanks... Looks challenging to find an HDMI to displayport displayport to HDMI seems common though. Am I being a dummy?

Welp, Sorry to waste everyones time with this post. I think I'll just get a cheap 32 inch TV and ditch the chromecast.

Too much hassle either hooking up a HDMI switch or buying expensive adapter.,

I know it likely no longer matters, but you can switch input/output in the forum topic I gave you. It should contain recommendations for both. And yes,  DP -> HDMI seems more common than the other way around.

My guess would be most computers can provide DP (and/or HDMI), while most TVs only accept HDMI. A source that only provides HDMI and a destination that only accepts DP is probably less common (since computer monitors usually accept both).
