i think its high on the surface because of manufacturing on such a thin device that packs a mega punch

Space Journal #1: So Apparently i  was dropped on the moon like i'm a mars rover, in a matter of hours i have found the transformers on the dark side of the moon. Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.

See I would like to believe that, except there are devices like the Samsung Series 9 that are considerably thinner...and have a full keyboard, touch pad, and get better battery life.

I actually hope Microsoft keeps aiming high with their surface program. I would rather have their products not grouped with the other vendors. Giving the surface a more premium treatment is a good start in my opinion.

Yeah, I see tablets as something that should be max $800. For the highest end one. They're not the greatest replacement for most things, more of something I'd use on the couch.

Some do use them for business but I find having a keyboard and larger screen is infinitely more useful.

You want Thunderbolt 3. 2x bandwidth again and 100W bi directional if you want. You can charge your device from it or drive a 4k display.

Pretty much this, $800 for the most basic model, and the top model costs twice as much as a PC with the same specs. Yes cramming all that hardware into a tablet increases the costs, but $2,000??? ZAGG has a keyboard cover for the iPad Mini, and while I can't confirm it, I would be surprised if they didn't release one for a the full size iPad.

You' think they figure that one out after the first one. Oh well if it has a decent GPU it could be nice but I bet it's just the i series APU.

I can understand the pricing of this compared to an Apple tablet. There is an actual CPU in this thing along with what you could say desktop grade components. They are mobile versions obviously but putting mobile desktop hardware into a small form factor like a tablet is difficult. The Razer blade was similar. But yea I think if Microsoft took the hit of a price cut and got people into their eco-system it would do better for them. If I wanted a tablet I would go for a surface. It's a really easy choice for me to make though because all the other tablets in my opinion are utter shit.

But what can the Surface do that other tablets can not to justify it's price and "PC replacement" comparison. The PC quality hardware is simply unjustified based on it's capabilities.

According to the comments on the site if MS lowered the price it would undercut oem's.

Then MS did something wrong with it's development and manufacturing. There is simply nothing about the Surface, function wise, that makes it worth the price.

Some people enjoy the portability of such a device that packs good specs. You can use it as both a table and laptop (or desktop).

Although I do agree the price is too high, i'd also like to see the batterylife and SSD size on he higher tiers. I love the Surface products and no other tablet is better in my opinion, but with these prices they can't make themselves popular. I hope they will also announce a Surface RT 3, with a K1 core, that could be much more viable.

It does more then any other tablet simply because it has a desktop OS on it with desktop grade hardware. You could play PC games on it if you wanted. I don't like tablets or smart phones though so I am probably the wrong person to ask about these things. If I was going to buy a tablet I would buy a surface over any other tablet.
