Will i7 6700 bottleneck 3060ti?

NoJoWo

My 2060 is dying on me and can't run a game without crashing my pc, assuming faulty vram. I need to upgrade but can't afford a whole new system. Would an i7 6700 bottleneck the 3060ti badly? My current specs are: i7 6700, RTX 2060, MSI Z170A Gaming M5(MS-7977), and 16 GB of ram.

Depends on the game really but it shouldn’t be too big of an issue.

For comparison the 6700 was commonly paired with high end pascal in its time, that and the i7 7700 which was nearly the same, and the 8700k being the at the time current gen choice for pascal.

So a 6700 or 6700K alongside a 1080ti is not uncommon at all, and the 1080ti is only slightly slower than a 3060 ti.

Not an overly out of balance system at all.

Flash a non k oc bios on that board if you havent already then oc that 6700 to around 4.6-4.8ghz to alleviate any bottlenecks

As for gpu choice look for a used 3070 or 6700xt/6800, buying new last gen is kinda stupid when used will save you alot of money

depends what games you play, if the 6700 + 2060 combo served you well you really won't see a dip

you might be slightly bottlenecked depending on game, but you can always upgrade in the future and no longer need to buy a GPU

also I agree with @Somerandomtechyboi check out the used market, the simplest way to buy used is to simply see how the user selling it is, if it's a passionate gamer or something he'll porbably include things like they checked for thermals and/or stress tests, some even offer like a pseudo-warranty for 7ish weeks if they're reasonable people

Yes, it will in many newer games.

It will be kinda all right in many older games.

Depends on what games, what resolution, what refereshrate. It should mostly be okay unless you're going above 60fpsat 1080p or 1440p. No need to rush an upgrade but one would be nice in the future if you also plan on getting a better graphics card.

Also +1 on buying used from last get

Think it will at 1080p, not much above

Yet the 3060Ti is still a bad buy imo, for same price you should rather get a 670XT, faster and more VRAM

Are you still on the lookout? Anything over $200 for a used 3060TI right now is steep, too much. Far better value for money. Unless you need the CUDA cores for proffessional work.
