Altibox unveils plans to introduce 10Gbps FTTH broadband this August

Norwegian triple-play provider Altibox, which boasts the country’s largest fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network, has announced plans to introduce downlink transmission speeds of up to 10Gbps for residential subscribers.

From 1 August 2014 a 10Gbps package will be priced at NOK 14,900 (USD 2,500), while a 1Gbps subscription will cost NOK 1,490 per month. Elsewhere, existing subscribers will see their download speeds increased incrementally, at no extra cost. The base level 25Mbps package is being boosted to 35Mbps (NOK 449 per month), and 60Mbps subscriptions will be raised to 75Mbps (NOK 549 per month).

If you order the 10 Gbps package, they will come home to you and install the needed equipment. You will need a small rack and a proper A/C.

Why do they offer this insane speed you ask? Because they can :P

  • 35/35 Mb/s  NOK 449 (USD 75)
  • 75/75 Mb/s  NOK 549 (USD 92)
  • 150/150 Mb/s  NOK 649 (USD 109)
  • 300/300 Mb/s NOK 749 (USD 126)
  • 500/500 Mb/s NOK 990 (USD 166)
  • 1/1 Gb/s  NOK 1490 (USD 251)
  • 10/10 Gb/s  NOK 14,900 (USD 2,500)

The only reason it is so cheap in romania is because romania is so poor that they didnt have a copper infrustructure, and it made sense to use fibre optic cables when they finally got around to building a telecoms network.

You would have to live in a country that has dirt roads and one of the highest crime rates in the world though. also a $7k USD GDP per capita.

Impressive that they're offering 10-gigabit internet at all. Useful for someone running a business.

Dirt roads?Nah.We have roads. They're shitty though.

High crime rates?Where did you get that one?We do not have one of the highest crime rates in the world in any way. However,we do have lots of small thefts, etc. because we're the country with most gypsies...And the people in Moldova are very violent for some reason.

But yes, income is very fucking low.

That's because Romania went from nothing to fiber, of course its cheap ;)

Not to mention, Norway is a pretty rich country. The average salary is (yearly, before taxes) 76,000+ USD. Even though everything is expensive here, due to our oil driven economy, our purchasing power are not that bad :)

But you have to be pretty rich to get a 10Gbps package though. That will be a special order.

And 1 Gbps package is also pretty expensive, but affordable ;)

With an average income, the tax rate are just under 30 percent. This applies if you have no deduction (beyond the standard deduction).

We are pretty much fucked when the oil is gone though :P

Unless you feel like raging at politicians who do nothing but get money for themselves and dig a deeper hole for the country.Or have a president who doesn't give a fuck, really. He  sometimes shows up drunk at official press conferences,xD.He broke the Constitution, but it doesn't matter because he controls the most importat Judiciary Court. He literally sends almost everyone who opposes him to jail.Elections are coming this year though. There isn't much hope left though...

When the Russian Prime-Minister threatened us with bombing, our president was in an electoral campaign,an act which is breaking our Constitution. He should have been taking important decisions then, but he didn't.Meanwhile, our prime-minister was at Eurovision and there was nobody to make any decision anymore.

Yes but when calculating salaries it's always including the tax the government takes. Otherwise it would be even lower.
