Building this PC was definitely an excellent idea

district_11

ok so I've had lots and lots of people confused and unable to comprehend why I'd build such a machine for such simple tasks, but it was definitely the right route to go down.

I have a high end gaming PC, but it's in my bedroom, and although it's pretty quiet, some of the lights inside the case cannot be turned off, which keeps me up at night.

All this rig is used for is browsing the web, burning DVD's (external drive) and downloading/unraring torrents. The 'PC' I used before it was a nasty cheap Pentium prebuilt with 4GB ram and a laptop style power brick (bought before I knew any better!). It was so slow that going from my gaming rig to that one made me want to pull my hair out!

This rig stays on almost every night and is extremely quiet. I love it nearly as much as my gaming rig!

Plus, it can easily handle a GPU to turn it into a gaming rig, should I need to sell/repair my main PC.

and the way I see it, it will be a long, long time before the hardware starts to show its age, given it's light use.

Has anyone else built a non gaming machine just to have an excellent experience using the web/Windows? and how do you find it going from your rig to a 'normal' PC, say in school/work/friends house etc?

Looks better without a video card in my opinion, looks so elegant mate.

You've certainly done PC building/builders a service mate, you should be very proud of yourself :)

No, no video card will be added since it doesn't need one.

On board video handles HD content and I have SLI 780's if I want to game :D

Live your life like a dream.

Wow, great pictures! For web browsing, and maybe watching some YouTube content, I think an i3 would have been a better choice, but knowing me I probably would've went for something like this just to brag. :P Great build!

Edit: Why is the PSU fan facing up? I usually put mine down because it has a dust filter. Any particular reason?

Your PC looks great.

I hate my work computer is so slow if I had no self control I would throw it in the street and stomp on it. Of course ill never do it but its still very slow. Im very close to change the hard drive for SSD or something. My computer at home is the complete opposite even if its not a 3000$ computer.

A FRIGGING TUF BOARD FOR LIGHT USE.

Y u do dis, me so jelly.

I wish i had a TUF board for my one and only PC. Out of all the other motherboards i have seen, the sabertooth ones are my favorites.

Anyhow very nicely done, the front IO connector sticks out a bit, but i am not one to criticize on cables.

EDIT: Is that the USB cable instead? The one with a rainbow color theme.

Spoiler

Case Bitfenix Ghost, Mobo Asus Maximus VIII Ranger, CPU i7 6700K @4.2 Ghz cooled by Arctic cooling Freezer i30, (barely). GPU Nvidia GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 @1519Mhz core, RAM 16Gb Crucial Ballistix CL16 @2400Mhz. If it isn't working absolutely perfectly, according to all your assumptions, it is broken.

I have a separate laptop that i use only for work, studying and web browsing.

I find there are less distractions helps me concentrate on what i'm doing, compared to my desktop with games and other distracting files.
